Tags Begone!

On a particularly nice project with lots of views I see this kind of spam:
http://www.imagebeast.net/images/z7p3udrjox9cyu45j0p.png
I had to zoom out to the smallest level on my browser to see half of it. And there are:
http://www.imagebeast.net/images/xm55y6tmfpos5iknidhm.png
There are zillions of projects out there with that kind of spam. Yes, it is spam.

I suggest, either remove the 'tags' section, or make it so if a user is spamming too much, yes, they get banned. It might be a bit harsh, but you do that on the forums, and the rest of the website, and it's not like tags aren't as important. They were a great idea, especially the taggers button so you can track down who said bad stuff, but they're being abused by a lot of people.

Re: Tags Begone!

Actually, on the project you took those pictures of, it's actually the author who tagged the most of them...

Re: Tags Begone!

Honestly though I agree. I try to keep the tags on my projects clean, and I put tags on my projects clean, and related to it.

Re: Tags Begone!

For example, look at my project Super Smash Bros. Ball Halloween Version. There are lots of tags. But guess what; all of those tags are somehow related to the game. I tagged them all. Just ask what one of them is; and I'll tell ya.

Most of the tags are. Tags like 'keroro645' aren't.

Yes it could be, especially putting the alphabet into the tags, But I don't care really...

No, actually he's a person that my game was inspired from. He was the one that created the idea of 'Super Smash Bros. Ball'.

But ones like "waffles" and "pokemon are real" need to be stopped.

Re: Tags Begone!

I don't like projects that have a ridiculous amount of tags so just about any search would find that project. Maybe the Scratch team could appoint a few people to watch for ridiculous tags and flag any that are inappropriate/unnecessary, and also encourage regular users to do so as well.

Tags used to be useful tools, but as the number of spammers increased, they turned into

Re: Tags Begone!

Nice, and yes, I agree with your point. Tags used to be useful, then the spammers came along and would do just about anything to get their projects viewed. That's why I think my above idea would work; having somebody monitor tags might decrease the amount of spam tags. The Scratch team could also create a filter for banning certain tags, but I think the other idea would work better.

Re: Tags Begone!

We can specify that comments on our projects are locked.  But, we can't do that with tags.

Perhaps, the Scratch Team could allow us to turn off tags for our projects.

Re: Tags Begone!

I suggest a Disable Tags option, which people liked - but the Scratch Team never said anything about it. It would work in the same way as comments!

Here are the features:

Disable comments
and tags

You can either do the comments only, or both. It's not fair! You can't only get the tags.

Re: Tags Begone!

I don't know if I should agree to your suggestion or not.  hmm

Okay, I put a lot of tags on my stuff. But most importantly, they are all relevant to the project. You can't call that spam, and honestly, I don't have nearly as many as those projects with that spam. I only have like... twenty tags maybe? Or ten...

Re: Tags Begone!

I mean, spam is like, posting tags that have nothing to do with the project.
