Loveits not fair

You know how loveits work, right? So tell me, is this fair?

Project1
1500 views
2 loveits

Projects2
1 view
1 loveit

Which one will get ranked higher? Project one, right? It isn't fair. Project 2 has a 1/1 ration, Project 1 750/1. Project two is obviously better, because of the larger loveit ratio.

So why not rank everything by ratios? Favorites to views, loveits to views, downloads to views, whatever. It allows easier spreading of projects, right? It's better.

If you have:

Project1
2 views
1 loveit

Project2
1 view
1 loveit

In this case, it doesn't make much of a difference, so project1 will be ranked higher.

I hope you take my suggestion!  smile

Lol. I completely understand what you mean. I haven't really noticed or cared about it, but it is something that would make Scratch better.

Re: Loveits not fair

I think the love it system works, but the most loved doesn't...
Maybe something should be change, perhaps record how many loves a project got on a day rather than the ratio of view to love?  smile

However, project 1 will probably get top viewed anyway.

Re: Loveits not fair

Well, what is strange about the front page is that some projects that are top viewed over time get 100 views and there are some that instantly get 50. I think it depends on speed.

That was kind of off-topic, but yes, I agree with your ratio plan.

Re: Loveits not fair

Yeah. I'm just thinking it should be a ratio, like maybe the average of loveits per day and loveits to views?

See? This way, those kind of projects don't get to 'top loved' unless people LIKE them on average.

If you have:

In this case, it doesn't make much of a difference, so project1 will be ranked higher.

If it was just two factors, determining a project rank is easy. But we have multiple factors: the number of love-its, downloads, faves, views, and days a project has been on the website.  big_smile

For example, what if you have something like this?:

Project1
1500 views
2 loveits
500 faves
10 downloads
1 day on website

Project2
1 view
1 loveit
1 fave
1 download
50 days on website

Now Project 1 seems overwhelmingly better than Project 2 because it has gained so many downloads, faves, views, and love-it's over a less amount of time.

But now what if another project was added to the Scratch website, and gained these statistics over one day?:

Project3
1 view
1 loveit
1 fave
1 download
1 day on website

Compare Project3 to Project2. Which deserves the higher rank? Project3 has more favorable ratios. But one may argue that Project3 is too new and doesn't deserve a higher ranking than Project2.  hmm

Tricky little ratio conundrum, isn't it?  wink

You're right. Just leave it to the Scratch Team, everyone.

But one thing I'd like to point out:

If a project has 1 view and 1 loveit, or any small amount, the project owner can always loveit their own stuff (which is dishonest) and boost themselves up.
And anyway, there are lots and lots of projects with 2 or 3 views and 1 or 2 loveits.

Re: Loveits not fair

Like I said, it won't make a difference if it is so small. And yes, it would measure how much in a day. I think that's a good idea.  smile

This is confusing, so I'll just state my opinion:

I think the ratios are a nice idea. But there are some problems. Oh, well.  tongue

Re: Loveits not fair

Just because nobody posts loveits doesn't mean no one likes it.  I view good projects all the time without posting loveits.  I've kind of neglected that feature  tongue .
