Scratched Disc Help.

I've been bellyaching about this for some time now, but how do you people repair a scratched disc?
My Final Fantasy VIII Disc 1 froze on Irvine's introduction cutscene, right before it ends (literally 5 seconds before the cutscene ends), and I've taken my rage to the internet.
Everywhere says to use toothpaste.
Including my friends.
I've tried, but it doesn't seem to work its charm on my poor little disc.

How do you repair scratched discs?

Re: Scratched Disc Help.

Magnet + amazing luck.

And by amazing luck, I mean the luck required to get a shiny Celebi with perfect IVs without SRing once.

I love how well your post goes with your signature.

Anyway, I'm not trying that with my -5 luck.

Re: Scratched Disc Help.

Yep. I've tried toothpaste before, and I'm afraid I had no luck, either.

My copy of FF VII just was totally messed up. It faded to black and just started whirring and whizzing.

My solution was simply to go on eBay and buy a copy of the second disc (the disc that the scratch was on). I'm afraid I can't help you in the repair of scratched discs department, though.

Re: Scratched Disc Help.

See, I would've done that immediately. But, my brother would kill me if he even saw me playing the game.

Re: Scratched Disc Help.

Try washing the CD with water and soap.

Are you playing it with a Wii? 'Cause I'm pretty sure it saves data for a certain game and only that data comes up even with different CDs.

Re: Scratched Disc Help.

can't you go down to you local video store they usally have a machine to fix these things.

I had a disk that was badly scratched and it wouldn't load a certain part of the game. I eventually got the next version console and it was able to play it but not very well but i still completed the game. It took about 3 years to complete the game because of those scratcher's (not the scratcher's on this site).

Find someone post count. Click posts under username. Find number of pages. Times that by 40 for min and 60 for max and you have a rough estimate of post count.

Playing it on my archaic PSX. I'm gonna see if it's just my system or if it's the disc.
I believe it's the disc, because the system's working fine otherwise.

We don't have video stores with disc re-buffers. If we did, I wouldn't be asking these questions and the rental games (and movies) in town would be in a good condition.

Re: Scratched Disc Help.

(Bump)
Whatever, just bought the game in 'brand new' condition.
I'll loan the other version to my friends.

Re: Scratched Disc Help.

I've looked around some more. There's something on wikiHow, but I'm not sure if it works.

Re: Scratched Disc Help.

I had this problem, we couldn't fix it  sad

If you have a PS2 play it on that (seriously, PS2's play PSX games 10 times better)
