Mistake in the Scratch Privacy Policy
I was reading the privacy policy, and I found a massive contradiction! This is what it says:
We put a "cookie" on your computer to keep track of when you are logged onto the Scratch website. (A cookie is a small data file that indicates that you have been to a particular website.)
We do not share, sell, or rent your information to anyone. We do not have any third-party content, advertising, or cookies.
That is it copied word for word! What's going on?

You actually read the whole privacy policy? Just kidding. But I still wouldn't fear, they state why they place a cookie... Now tell me, did the paragraphs come in the order you typed them, or did the 2nd paragraph come first? Because if they say they have a cookie, then they say they don't, then lots of confusion to the reader. BUT if they say they have no cookies, then say they have that cookie in there for a reason,

I think that it doesn't really matter...
Cookies usually cannot harm your computer, and I trust the scratch team not to take advantage of the exceptions.
However, for legal purposes, a direct contradiction may void the whole document, or a good chunk, depending on the end users' jurisdiction.
Good for you bringing this up... I hope that the scratch team will find it and make an amendment.

I wrote it in the order that it is there. Those two paragraphs came right after each other.

People! Attention! The point is that it says in the first paragraph:
We put a "cookie" on your computer
In the second paragraph it says:
We do not share, sell, or rent your information to anyone. We do not have any third-party content, advertising, or cookies.
The point is that it is contradicting itself. I know what a cookie is (whether it is culinary or technological).

The policy says that the website doesn't use any third-party content, advertising, or cookies, meaning there is no code on the website that isn't from the Scratch team (ads, etc.) That means that the only party storing information on your computer is Scratch.

For goodness sake. It says first of all that it puts a cookie on your computer, then it says what's in your quote. It contradicts itself.

Anyway, I think that they put cookies on your whatever but they don't put any third party cookies
Third party stuff is stuff that's not you and it's not them, it's something else.

i dont see whats the problem, cookies just rememer you, it helps if you dont like having to log in, repeatedly, unless you are afraid someones gonna tamper with your stuff, but if your that paranoid,t hen you simply log out, and it doesn't have you loged in the next time you come back.
And reading it again now, it think that it means that they dont have anyone else putting (or whatever cookies do to get attached) on your computer so that means scratch.mit.edu is secure.

WF is trying to get people to say, "OMG THE SCRATCH WEBSITE IS GOING TO CLAIM WORLD DOMINATION!" Or something along those lines. Obviously I wouldn't use a cookie to do it, but you guys are reading the second paragraph wrong.

It says OR. They dont have any third party content, Ok Cross that out. Then they dont have any advertising, Ok Cross that out. Now they dont have any cookies... But wait... I saw them say they had cookies earlier...

It's saying they don't have any third-party cookies. A third-party would be like Microsoft or Google. So, there can still be cookies, just not third-party ones.

It says that they have cookies. They are MIT's cookies, so they arn't third party, so it's saying that there arn't any third-party cookies. That doesn't mean there are no cookies at all.

Right. Let's put it this way. Scratch only sends us Scratch cookie. It doesn't send us Yahoo's or Google's or [web advertiser here]'s cookie. That's what it means.

It doesn't say anything about third-party cookies. I know that's what it means, I am merely pointing out that they made a mistake.

We do not have any third-party content, third-party advertising, or third-party cookies
