How can I turn a sprite into a display image for scratch

Is it possible to make one of the sprites i've made into a display picture on scratch? or do i need a different kind of file, like a flash or .avi file?

A display picture? Like .gif/bmp/jpeg/png?  .bmp works perfectly to scratch, just upload your image into paint and save as .bmp and then upload. Unless I am not understanding the question right...

Can u plz make ur question clear u want a sprite out of scratch or u want a image as a sprite in scratch
