Text-Based Games belong in their own forum, not in here

-IF YOU'RE WONDERING WHY YOUR GAME OR RPG IS GONE, LOOK AT THE LAST SECTION-

Now, you may be wondering what exactly defines a game and a miscellaneous thread.
Here's a summary of all the voiced opinions:

Game

A game asks for contributions simply for replies to the proposed set of rules that lead to something that gives no exact benefit to readers. A game typically asks people to read the rules and come up with their own post to play along, rather than contribute information to share with others.

Miscellaneous

These threads have their limits. First of all, chatrooms are not allowed.
The threads that fall into this category are more of little pieces of information, some beneficial and some not. If a thread is about what you're working on, that's fine. So is a survey asking for opinions on a project. What passes the limit is a thread that asks, for example, your favorite carpet color. That is slight, but spam threads are too much.
....................................
Here's the link to the proper forum: Text-Based Games forum
Please keep this forum clean of games. Just put them in their right place!  smile
....................................
Another thing TBG (and RPG) related is the common problem of having your game missing. What happened is it what moved away to a hidden forum to help unclutter the TBG and RPG forums so that you can find games easier. We try to move only the inactive, dead games, so it shouldn't be much of a burden, but if a game you're fond of is moved, just say so so it can be moved back.

Re: Text-Based Games belong in their own forum, not in here

This is a good idea...I think I'll sticky it, thanks!

Now...a question...how do we define what is a "game" and what is an "inspiration"?

I think a topic is a game if it invites posts more for the sake of posting than to move a discussion towards a conclusion.  That's a bit cloudy, I admit, but it's the best I've been able to come up with so far.  Do you have a better definition  smile  ?

Re: Text-Based Games belong in their own forum, not in here

I think a game is a game if It's there for fun and not really building any inspiration towards anything. (Post 100 times etc:)

Inspiration is maybe sharing or looking for ideas about a game you've played, something you have seen, another language etc:  smile
Something interesting but not there for the purpose of playing while doing nothing else. Or maybe a discussuin over an oponion (as long as it stays in control  smile  )

Here's an example of inspiration: http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=257002#p257002
A game is something like everyone posting what they had for breakfast, not just me telling you whatI had for breakfast

No... Thats a survey. It could be for gathering information for a project of some kind.

Ok... A game would be like "Rate the above users sig" or "Ban the person above you", ect.

Like I said... It's hard to say what a game is,  sad  but it's like a topic that really couldn't inspire a topic for a project.

Re: Text-Based Games belong in their own forum, not in here

I think a topic should be defined as a game if it:
- invites posts more for the sake of posting than to move a discussion towards a conclusion.
- Does not follow a specific theme (e.g. this means topics like the Halloween topics, and asking people's opinions in general are not classified as games)

Re: Text-Based Games belong in their own forum, not in here

The cereal example may be in between chat/inspiration.

Say you we're discussing different things about food, it could be inspiration (maybe).

--

A game is quite simply something that doesn't get you thinking...
Last person to post, ban this person, don't do this or else...

Inspiration is more like...
What do you think of this?, Is this a good idea?, Should I try this?, Did you see this?

Each one gets you thinking of something and could help you get inspiration  wink

Interesting! I think I'll try.

A game: Topics that don't ask people's opinions of things (besides the ratings; ie. Rate the Pain). Games aren't things like "What do you think about the Scratch Community?"... that's inspiration (not exactly, but much more like inspiration than a game).
Inspiration: Topics that ask people's opinions of things. This includes surveys, questions, remarks, ideas, and the usual.

I hope that was good!

Like games, there is not a question.
They are like called 'Post Last before the game tells it is finished!' Like:
'Post last!'
'I'm gonna win!'
'Not you... but me!'
'Me, not you!'
'Naaa.... Me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'
'Muhahaha! ME!'
'Ended! User with message 'Muhahaha! ME!' won!'

Re: Text-Based Games belong in their own forum, not in here

Apparently when it was here, it was causing more fights (not sure how the fighting would lower in the other forum.

But in reality, I think it was because the TBG topics flooded up the 'Recent posts' search and some users found it annoying, so they got the scratch team to move it.

Re: Text-Based Games belong in their own forum, not in here

It got moved because:

1. They are now clearly seperated from the Scratch Forums
2. They now have their own moderators to take care if it

That's what I remember... and in the sticky announcing the TBG being moved, Andrés said that the old one got closed because it created lots of fights and was lots of work for the current moderators.

But the new one is so peaceful...  smile

What's the difference? The moderators here couldn't handle it?

They could handle it - it's just that the TBG would be better off with its own dedicated moderators who were willing to moderate it.

I may not be right; I'm just saying what I remember and what seems to make sense.

Why not just get the mods they have now, and get them to moderate the TBG's that were here.

(Sorry to start up this argument again....just curious.)
