Annoying projects

I am TIRED of the kind of projects that are on the front page with the top loved and top viewed. I'm talking about the projects that have letters, like the common "Goodbye Scratch" projects or the "I'm sorry" projects, and those kind of projects. People who make those projects don't get Scratch. The point of Scratch is to learn how to program, and the good projects with actual scripting should get the front page. The lame "Goodbye, Scratch" projects take up ALL of the front page spaces.
PLEASE, REPLY IF YOU AGREE! I want to know if I'm not the only one who thinks this.

Re: Annoying projects

I'm sorry but I can't agree with you.
As you said "The point of Scratch is to learn how to program"
Isn't all projects with scripts approved then?

Re: Annoying projects

I agreed with you up until the "movie" part. Animating is still programing, it requires scripting. I believe the Scratch motto is "Imagine-Program-Share" and not "Imagine-make games-Share". Scratch isn't Just about learning how to make games, it's about having fun as well.

But I do agree with you about the Pictures part. Scratchers who mainly draw pictures for projects would probably enjoy using sites like deviantART or Photobucket.

not the letters! the letters don't involve any programming whatsoever. The movies aren't as bad, but they're just a string of pictures with one script or another: [blocks]<if><mouse down?><next costume>[/blocks]

Well, I guess the movies aren't a tenth as bad. They still aren't my favorite, though.

Well, animation can be important when it comes to improving games with story lines and that kind of thing.

Not all movies are made like that, many people use Scratch for animations like one of Cheddargirl's project (About a plushie).

The letters doesn't involve any scripting really as you stated, but however some letters (like MyRedNeptune's Oh noes! project) are informative and they keep you 'updated' about other scratchers.

The thing is, those can be posted in the forums and advertised in projects with links, instead of taking up space on the front page.

But it sure is funnier making projects about those things, but not about minor things like "I saw a snail today YAAY!!!".

Re: Annoying projects

Gee, I never thought about this topic, I kind of agree. I mean, I would never waste my time on these kinds of projects. For some popular scratchers, like Maki-Tak, everyone knows them, so when they want to leave, they feel everyone needs to know. It is kinda pointless, though.

Wow.... That just made my day! XD

"QFT" means "Quoted For Truth". It's not a typo. I'm so sorry, but I love that mistake. XD

Also... I make animations and what not.

I think it's good to point out that people on the front page don't usually mean to get up there, unless it's a remix chain. For example, Nikki made a project called Nikki finds the tails doll and it got on the front page. Everyone started remixing it, and it got all over the front page. It sparked this huge arguement, and then Nikki tried to get people to stop remixing, and it didn't really work. It's not the creator's descision to be on the front page, it's the scratch community's.

Re: Annoying projects

I just want to put something straight here.

Scratch is about programming. Anything that involves programming is all right. See? Animations are all right.

Now, let's take the art. Okay, art isn't really any programming; people just draw it in some program (usually not Scratch), and then share it. But art can be okay... there are plenty of reasons for why it is allowed to pass. First of all, there can be requests. Second, the art can be for some special thing (like an RPG picture). Third, there are competitions. Oh, whatever.

It's true that those "I'm sorry!" projects often get front paged, when they have no programming. But let's make something clear here:
Projects get on the front page because people like them.
That is either right, or not that far off. Let's see:

How do projects get Top Loved? Poeple love them!
How do projects get Top Viewed? People view them! And why do they view them? Because they're interested!

That shows something, doesn't it?

And lastly, it's your opinion. Who said that everyone had to agree?
