Strange effects with animated sprites and HIDE

Somewhere I'm doing something wrong (not an unusual occurrence!)

When using an animated sprite, what I sometimes get is an 'overwrite' effect which causes two things to happen:

(1) the animated figure displays on top of existing images of itself (show and hide don't seem to have an effect here).
(2) the actual set of images for the sprite are altered in the bank.

ALSO when using SHOW and HIDE in experiments, if 'HIDE' was the last instruction to be used, is this supposed to carry over onto the next project?  What have I found is that even after loading (or re-loading) a project, a sprite can remain 'hidden' until I temporarily insert 'SHOW'. This can then be deleted and everything will run as expected.

Re: Strange effects with animated sprites and HIDE

The show/hide status of sprites does seem to persist through save/open but graphic effects and writing by the pen do not.
