How to make a sprite file into gif file?

How do i make sprite files into gif files? I want to know because i want to edit a sprite that has a gun. The problem is that i cant import the gun because it is not a gif file.
So can someone pls help!!!

if you you have image editing software you can open it and save it as a GIF or PNG or JPEG or whatever.
