It does this alot when i try to get a sprite from my documents. It wastes 15 minutes of my time and i cant even cancel it. Is there a way to avoid this?

Put your sprites directly into the scratch folder?

Break your documents folder up into subfolders by category, so that no folder has a huge number of pictures. That will speed up the construction of the thumbnails file a lot, and you'll only have to update the thumbnails on folders you actually use from scratch.
