Yeah... Don't worry too much about your freshman PSAT. I'm almost positive that no college sees PSAT scores, especially not Freshman scores, so I would personally use it as a way to measure your abilities, your potential, and your goals.

That's how I used it at least  tongue

I'm not trying to sound condescending or arrogant, but I didn't study and I did pretty well so I'm aiming high now. If you do (or don't) the same you'll know how hard you need to work for a great score when it matters.

That's exactly what I'm doing, just using it to measure my abilities. I homeschool, so its alot easier to work on things that I really need to pay attention to. I attemted to study calculas on my own, but I read 14 pages and said, "screw this," lol.

I'm graduating HS this April and going to college in the Fall.

Haha, a 9th grader attempting calculus at all is amazing. I'm in Algebra II.

MIT doesn't give merit scholarships, most top-level schools don't, but they'll provide grants or loans to cover 100% of your "demonstrated need".

My dream College is definitly MIT. I doubt it will happen, but you never know.
You asked for SAT scores? On a recent one, I got a 1850. However, I am taking a class to raise it.
CAL tech would be nice, I like California.

Just wondering, how old are you? If you have enough time you can easily raise that score to the 2100 you mentioned. The biggest issue is getting a very high math score for MIT/Cal Tech, of course, with the engineering/math focus.

I took the SAT in 7th grade and got a 1750 (580/590/580), got a 198 on the PSAT in 9th grade, and I've gotten up to a 2100 on SAT practice tests. I'm aiming for a 215 or higher on the PSAT this year (I'm taking it next week).

Cool, I'm taking the PSAT for the first time this Thursday and I'm in 9th grade. I'm trying to aim high so I'm doing alot of studying.

I am in high school. Its going to go up, it took that about three weeks ago and have been taking classes for it.

Re: College.

MIT!!!! I want to go there and study things that have to do with cars: Physics, mechanics, ect. Actually, I really wanted to go there a few years ago, and I took the power of the internet! I googled MIT and video game design. (I wanted to work for nintendo, then.) So thats the story of how I found out about Scratch. I wasn't into the forums as much until about a year ago. I was in mexico, surfing the net, and was really bored. So I tried out the forums, and immediately became addicted to Scratch.

Weellll, in Canada, if you're going to college you're usually studying very open-ended or artsy stuff, and as I want to be an engineer of sorts, I'll be attending university. Most people in Canada go to a university if they choose to do post-secondary education.

Anyhow, I'll probably be going to the University of Waterloo. And guess where I live  tongue

Good luck getting into those universities  tongue

dude, my dad went to brown medical school and bc for college, and my mom got into harvard, but she desied to go to UClA. so you just need to try and be smartish.

oh, and i'm only in 6th grade i'm not really thinking about college yet, but mabye smith or yes harvard i don't know.

I wasn't saying that s/he wouldn't get in, I was actually wishing them luck.

Or was that not the purpose of that post? If not, please explain?

Opps! sorry, I thought you were being sarcastic! Sorry, about that. At  my school (even though its a good private school and stuff) when ever we talk about collages ever one says you never will be able to get into MIT or Harvard even though you have strait a's/ a+'s like me you'll never get in but i know that's not true. just like i said you have to try!!!!

I want to go to MIT (I even did before Scratch) I think it would be awesome. But I'm not sure if it matches what I want to be when I'm older... I want to be an architect.

Re: College.

As I posted before, I want to go to the University of Waterloo: it's one of the best universities in Ontario, it's close to home (Only a few minutes away, actually), and it can give you some of the best degrees you can get in engineering and stuff. My parents both went there. But I'm still open to other universities, and I don't think I'm going to have too much trouble getting into one.

I don't think that M.I.T has an arcetecture department. I wanted to go there before I found out about scratch, too.

i actually think they do, but i don't think it is one of the most popular cause i was watching this show one day and he was an enviormentle architect and he said he graduated from MIT.

MIT, Harvard, or Yale. I've seen Yale a bunch of times, since I live in New York, near the border of Connecticut.

Oh btw, for Harvard you need an SAT score of 2350+. *jawdrops*

Believe it or not, Yale's average student's SAT score is higher than Harvard's, according to what I've read. Like 700-790 is the median for Yale (each section), something like 720-760 for Harvard I think.

Lol. It takes a bit of natural ability (or a lot of work), and some luck, just to get those scores.

Even with the scores, it's ridiculously hard to get accepted.

Well, I mean, if you get a 2400, it's not that hard to get accepted...

Schools like Harvard and Yale do turn down quite a few 2400s or 36s every year. Sure, it increases your chances, but if they school realizes that you study 12 hours a day and do nothing other than school, you probably won't get in because the schools do not want students who only study and don't really contribute to the school in other ways.

Anyways, back to colleges, I wanna try calculus. People say it's hard, but hey, it's worth a shot.

A lot of people that know me in real life (no one on scratch) say that I'm really smart, but honestly, I've never studied once in my life. I think I'm just a quick learner.
