I was just on the computer, working on a scratch project. I was backspacing when suddenly all my text disappeared. I would highlight it, and i could see there was a character there due to the highlight, but i couldn't see the text. I clicked on the color, but i should have been able to see it. I clicked on the font box, and only the original fonts from the old version were there. I was using two new fonts, and had over 12 sprites that were all "new" fonts. All of the # in the blocks on the side disappeared. For example, all boxes looked like: <move( )steps> ...with the white box there, but i couldn't type anything in that space. And I couldn't view the Languages button at the top. At the bottom, where it shows you previews of all sprites, the previews disappeared. All of my sprites that were on the viewing space disappeared, too... a

So I saved and exited. I opened up a new Scratch thing, but it was working normally with all of the fonts. I opened my saved project and it was still blank. When I clicked on the blank preview, the costumes were blank, too. But when I clicked on edit, it showed up, and all fonts were available. So now I have to do that for every sprite and every costume.

IN CONCLUSION:
I can fix my project, but it is a waste of time, and I'd lke to know why this happened. If anyone can help me, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!!

The cause of the problem is still unknown. It has happened to me too.

That only happens on scratch 1.3 and earlier. 1.3.1 mostly fixes that bug.

the same thing happend to me! I was working on a costume when scratch suddenly froze and in about 10 seconds it minimized (i'm using windows). Before it minimized i saw the language button and all other text went away (exept on 1 sprite). I tried to open it again but it would not. I went to it's folder and opened it and it froze again. I had to press ctrl+alt+delete and use the task manager to close them.

Well, it's not like an unsolvable problem. It's just really annoying, and time consuming.

I have 1.3.1 and I had no idea it could happen to me. Then all of a sudden.....BOOOOOM ALL THE TEXT WAS GONE. But I new about this bug soo I just decided to just close it and open a new one. For some reason this happened on 1.3.1 for me and not 1.3 ... hmm So confusing. I wasn't supprised when it happened. (Maybe a little) But for me it wasn't that bad. Maybe if I can get it to happen I can upload a few Screen Shots. smile

The cause of the problem is partially known.

It is a bug in the underlying text rendering code of Scratch (the UnicodePlugin.dll in the scratch folder), written in C. The Scratch team has not been able to track it down yet - so even in the next version of Scratch (1.4)_ the bug will probably remain.

We could all help trying to fins something that *always* causes this bug, can you make it happen again?

It seems to happen a lot when I switch to another program (particularly Internet Explorer) from an unsaved project that has a lot of scripts. And I was never working on a large project like that until 1.3.1, so it never happened before that.

And it's not like the text just drops out of the memory, either. When I switch back to Scratch from the other program, it shows the text for a second, but then disappears.
And then it will still show the spaces when you highlight them, only you can't see the text.

Exact same thing happend to me except it did not auto-minimize. I minimized it myself. Windows Vista doesn't work, thats why
