For a long time the inspiration and more forum has always been about stuff that is not related to Scratch. I have seen many political and religious arguments take place there.
This is Scratch! And these are the Scratch forums. I think Inspiration and more should be used for only Scratch related topics, and that all other subjects be banned.
Tell me what you think.

I agree. Religious talks aren't really related to Scratch, and can go on some other website that is OK with it. I am also kind of tired of Forum Games. They were fun at first, but there is an overload now so . . .

Actually, I would like it if the 'Inspiration and More' forum was subdivided into smaller sections.
The 'Inspiration and More' forum seems to have been the catch-it-all for other topics:
- asking other Scratchers opinions
- giving requests
- talking about Scratch related paraphernalia (about projects, Scratch users, or the Scratch community in general)
- advice on designing Scratch projects
- debates
- stories
- other topics that, although not related to Scratch, have some effect on the Scratch community or project design (for example, the question about the whereabouts of the Spriter's Resource website).
- showing off personal websites
- random stuff
It would be nice to see new forums for Requests, Scratch Project Design Advice, Stories, and Scratch Community Talk. Maybe one for Debate and Opinions (although I am up in the air about this one because it could just be asking for a powder-keg forum that's a pain to moderate) and showing off websites (up in the air about this one, too, because it could just be an opening for commercial spammers).

Speaking of which, there was already a large discussion about subtopics. The problem is, it hasn't been active for about a year, so it probably won't get done. But I still have some hopes for it! http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=13947&p=1

I don't get why the forums have to be 100% scratch, and absolutely nothing else. Almost every forum has some sort of offtopic section. Yes, even support forums. So why should scratch be any different?
I also want to point out that IaM and TBG are in the "Other" section at the bottom of the page, and everything else in "Scratch" (plus the Scratch in other languages and Archived Forums sections). Of course they don't relate to each other, that's why they're separated.

Would surveys be allowed?

Because this is a Scratch forum.

Perhaps migrating to phpBB would do something (it supports sub-forums)...
As for non-scratch stuff on scratch forums, there is almost always some off-topic section on any forum you choose.

My point was that we should have an 'other' section for Scratch stuff.

Well, I don't like the arguements, but some topics can be inspirational or helpful, like a survey "Which Kinds of Projects Do You Like" to help you with you're next project, or a topic about astronomy pictures could inspire a project about astronomy, ect.
The arguements don't contribute to the community, but some deviations from scratch should be allowed.
The line is a bit fuzzy here I think...

I don't mind surveys, I done a few of them before in the 'Inspiration and More' section. If a subsection for Debates and Opinions were to exist, I wouldn't mind having surveys allowed in there, or even making Surveys a separate section.

I must say, I did find those political debated kind of fun... (those partaking in them will have found out how set I am in my beliefs!) However, they defeat the purpose of the scratch forums, and particularly that section. That section basically says: It's OK to go off topic, as long as it still gives users inspiration for future projects. Once the focus shifts to one revolving directly on the topic at hand, and not how it related to scratch, do the problems arise. I think if the moderators just keep a close eye on them, and stop arguments before they get out of hand, as well as adding posts connecting the brewing row to scratch and inspiration for projects, we can have that section run considerably more smoothly.
