sangecko: Yes, you can export a sprite's costume as GIF by right clicking on it in the costume list. Then you can edit the GIF with any other program you like and import it back into Scratch by either dragging it into the costume list again, or by importing it using the "Import" button in the Paint Editor.

I was going to answer this question, but I'd forgotten about the "hidden" right-click actions, and couldn't remember how to save a costume. Why is that a hidden feature? Why are any of the features hidden behind right clicks?

Unusually I'm with Kevin on this one
I didn't know you could export to GIF by right-clicking - when you do this it doesn't say its exporting it as a GIF - I'd always assumed it was exporting in some sort of scratch format (like a sprite export)
If you've got several costumes - does it export as an animated GIF?

You misunderstood the point a bit. You can't export a sprite as a GIF, you can export one of it's costumes as a GIF. So if you have an animation you will have to export each costume seperately.
