If you sign up with friends together in school,
then you just log out first and then click sign up again (and I did that too)
And then you will find your friends' account there :-)

Search on the search bar on the top of the page their username. Then click the "Blank's Stuff" link(blank is the username of your friend) and where their icon is there is a ,link that says "Add to friends". Click that, and then ok on the popup. By the way, welcome to Scratch!
