Re: I suggest that the Text-Based Games be deleted.

All right, people. Let's stop arguing for a second, it's just getting us nowhere fast.

• If we delete them, half of the community gets angry.
• If we don't delete them, the other half of the community gets angry.
• If we put them on a different website, or we just make posts there not count, it would work but the work to moderate it would still be horrible.

Is there anything we can do? We've put ourselves into a corner here.

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

So true! I said the same once, I'll just try and remember what I said,

Chrischb wrote:

Who cares if they can't have their fun? If they get angry and leave, we'll be left with a bunch of loyal, helpful Scratchers and the forums will be a better place.

The only problem is the bit about making them angry. We don't like making people angry, but I guess they can just find a different forum. Why not? If they want to use the Scratch Forums only, that's their problem.

Is there anything we can do? We've put ourselves into a corner here.

Did you read the section of the topic post mentioning what we can do?

1. We simply delete the Text-Based Games. People will be upset, but this will go away after a week (or maybe less). New Scratch users won't even know the difference! Yes, topics may pop up in All About Scratch, but forum moderators can simply close or delete the topics (you can report those topics if you want to be helpful). If people don't learn, there can be stickies. And it isn't that hard to remove all of the topics that are games.

2. We move the Text-Based Games to a different website. The people will play there, and we'll all be happy. The problem is if the Scratch Team wants to run a seperate website just for those games.

3. We remove the Text-Based Games posts from the post count. This may seem silly, but it gets disaterous. First, the Text-Based Games addicts will have their post count change from 500 to 10 (or 3500 to 50). They will feel ashamed of having such a low post count (everyone cares) while the Scratchers that care about the Community will have 500 or 1000. They will want a higher post count, so they will visit and post more in the helpful parts of the forums. Which means that we'll get more Scratchers who care about the Community.

Do you see something with these three ideas? They all get rid of the useless users who don't care about the Scratch Community. Which is perfect.

why dosen't scratch team make another section on the fourms were people can spam all they want and write things that have absoultley nothing to do with scratch? it may or it may not work, but if it somehow does it may lower the amount of spam on the other fourm sections. we also can combine my idea with hmnwilison's idea of noot letting these posts count.  smile

I like the idea, but this is already happening.

Blade-Edge, Parr0t, RobotKitty... but thankfully not you. I am sure that there are more, but as I don't play the Text-Based Games much...

Blade-Edge says "don't talk about me, and also that's not true, I made the account to" I forgot the rest
I'll ask him later
And also, I completely understand the reasoning behind what your suggesting, it's just that it's a bad idea, and shouldn't be implemented

You just don't get it, do you? It's not that we don't like playing the Text-Based-Games. If it were just that, we'd take your advice and avoid it.

What we're saying is different.

What us twenty-one people have realized is that the forums don't need the Text-Based-Games. It takes up space, which 1. slows up the forums, and 2. costs the Scratch Team more money.
We have realized that there is simply no need. It's extra cost, and the forums would benefit without it. It's there to help people, not to be a forum that people can use for fun.

If you support Text-Based-Games, why not take your own advice and find a different forum? There will be some out there that support forum games.

You are perfectly allowed to have your own opinion.
You say that it's a bad idea... can you explain why that is? It's always better to explain instead of just saying that it's a bad idea.

martianshark, we can't just go and look at other forums. We want the Scratch Forums instead of any old forum (since the Scratch Forums are about Scratch), of course.

It makes more sense for you to go to a different forum. We use the Scratch Forums because we want to discuss Scratch. You use the Scratch Forums because it has games. And which makes more sense (and I actually want an answer from you guys): moving the Scratch stuff out of the Scratch Forums, or moving the games out?

No!!! Don't delete them!!!  sad  Im not going to say its a terrible idea cuz its just a suggestion! But I don't agree!!! Sometimes you get ideas from textbased games!!! Remember the "how to get the cake" thing? That turned into a remix project. Plus, considering the fact that there are hundreds or maybe thousands of pplz on Scratch, 20 is nothing big.

1. You obviously have no idea how the internet works. Each Forum is a different page, and unless you have a milion internet tabs of every single forum on Scratch, it doesn't take up any more space than if it was deleted.
2. You obviously have no idea how the internet works. The MIT owns their own website. They have their own server. They don't pay someone else to do it, that would be stupid.
