Proper Text-Based Games Etiquette

Just a reminder to you all.

1. Always read the topic post. It gives information about the topic, and you can see more than if you just guess what's going on.

2. Play the games sensibly. Do not stray off-topic, post random stuff, play crazily; in other words, use your common sense.

3. Be polite. Of course, this is sort of like etiquette (part of it at least). You should not be rude to other people, cheat, swear; just be polite.

4. Only start sensible games. Do not start games like "Pick on (Random User)", "The Insulter", or "Chatroom". These are all likely to get nasty (and the last one closed).

5. Have fun!

Hope this helps you,
Jonathanpb

Re: Proper Text-Based Games Etiquette

I don't get why people flame other people so often in Texed-Based Games, you don't see people fighting in the other forums. It's ridiculous. These are some pretty good guidelines, as Keikij said, Somebody Sticky this ^^

well, there's that. But that's to be expected at least, people can get VERY defensive about religions.

Welllllllll, in that forum that Mayhem made, only two religions are fighting, Christianity and Atheism.

Re: Proper Text-Based Games Etiquette

Thank you keikjj and nikkiperson2.

The reason that forum moderators don't close the religious topic is because people are allowed to discuss things. But cheddargirl said that if it gets out of hand, they'll close it. And MyRedNeptune visits the topic often, but stays out of it. You can see her posts defending everyone.  smile

I wonder if this'll get stickied...  smile

He knows. It's just that he was discussing things with other forum users.

Anyway... is anyone going to sticky this? It's definitely needed.

Re: Proper Text-Based Games Etiquette

While I agree with most of this, there are some text-based games that allow you to go off topic. It all depends on the game. And, what's a sticky?

I haven't seen any of those. Just play as you should.

A sticky is a topic that forum moderators have decided was good for people to see, so they stick it to the top of the list of topics. Take a look at the list of topics in the Text-Based Games forum. At the top, do you see the stickied topic? It even says 'Sticky: '... Stickies aren't always gray. It's just a closed topic (where you can't post or edit posts).

This should be stickied, rather than have Text Based Games deleted.

Re: Proper Text-Based Games Etiquette

Thanks again! I don't see why the Text-Based Games delete topic should. It's just a normal suggestion... but more ambitious.  smile
