Thanks. Where do you suggest I right click?
The error happens when I "save" it then asks for a filename - when entered then save, that is when the error msg happens.
thx for helping...

What? I helped you? Wow i didn't even know it! I was just saying to right click here on the forums! (You may want to do that to view the next sentance). Why don't you show me the blocks!
To put a blocks into the forums, you will have to type in [blocks](BLOCK'S NAME HERE)[/blocks] So let's say that you were going to type in When Green Flag Clicked you would do this: [blocks]<when green flag clicked>[/blocks] and it would produce
[blocks]<when green flag clicked>[/blocks].

Scratch_yoshi meant to use right click, and then select so that you could see the invisible text he included. This isn't really needed for a help topic as it can only make thing consfusing.
As for the saving, I'll see if I can find anything for you now
As for Scratch_Yoshi. Take this in mind that new members don't really want to be reading invisible text when it doesn't really help
It's more suited for the text-based-games or some inspiration threads.
Edit: Ok I don't think I know anything on this one.
My suggestions:
1. Try re-downloading Scratch (Might be some components missing for whatever reason)
2. Wait for one of the Scratch team (Paddle2see, Andres etc:) to come along. They will probably know more on this issue.

Interesting error....don't remember seeing that one before. It does sound like maybe the Scratch installation is corrupt, as 06dknibbs suggests. I would try reinstalling it. Also, it might be worthwhile to try saving to different directories (if it lets you get that far) and see if that changes the behavior any.

Thanks - I ended up carefully copying the entire project into another project and it saved with no problem. In the first project we (my dad and I) were constantly right clicking help on each control or variable or look or motion object to learn how to use it. We bet that there is a bug somewhere in the help code...
I do have another question... is there a way of making a compound sprite? taking two sprites and combining them, so then I can code the compound to do things? thanks again forum...

The best way to do that would be to do the following
1. Save any sprites to a document that your going to combine. (Not needed if they are Scratch sprites)
2. Open paint editor.
3. Press the import button located on the left hand side.
4. Import a sprite (from the document you saved to if there not Scratches sprites.)
5. Repeat with the second sprite and then drag them around, overlap them erase sections etc: until you get the new sprite that you want

I've had a similar problem, occasionally I will go to open a file and it will say it hadn't been saved correctly, or the file has been corrupted. However I think that may be my fault for perhaps shutting down the computer or closing down the program before it had been finished saving.
