Re: multiplayer on scratch

i wasn't meaning a server on scratch, and as on Club Penguin, theirs several people, with a max player limiter. And you could just get people download the game off scratch or another website if its over the 10MB size limit. And a little sprite with the IP adress of the server. They would need BYOB to do it though, and BYOB would come in handy in the making of the game anyway, with its BuildYouOwnBlock ability.

Re: multiplayer on scratch

Marky: I know there are limits on Club Penguin, cause it will slow down the server but you could have 1 server but it'd be really slow, that's what I meant by unlimited but you could make a limit.  big_smile

Re: multiplayer on scratch

of course, i think i know how to do it, you would make a list, have it store all the ip adresses, then a timer on how long they've been on, and then work out a way to kick people off (If its possible) to keep things moving!

Re: multiplayer on scratch

Or just have a plain old Limit, people may be able to connect but they won't be able to play.

Re: multiplayer on scratch

thats the point in the time out, to kick people who have been playing for too long, or not done anything for a long time.

Re: multiplayer on scratch

but, it would cost a lot to do so, but you could charge people to download it, and extras addons and download packs to finance it. (Im meaning the server space.)

The thing about this is that you would almost have to have an "admin project" that controlled logging in and off, etc. For every project distributed, a new sprite would have to be added to all the old copies of the project, as to show the position of the new player on all the older players' projects.

Re: multiplayer on scratch

They aren't built with Scratch, so you can't necessarily model off of them.

Re: multiplayer on scratch

could you just start out trying to distribute a really simple MMORPG like a virtual Chatroom or something? something that isn't as avatar-based? like something where you can draw pictures on peoples screens to chat with them? just a multiplayer game, like I made this cannons game, but I had trouble making it a .exe or just with uploading the file to the internet... I would like help with that. Basically, just ANYTHING that actually demonstrates how it works. if somebody could give out something, and people just link by sharing their IPs. oh and btw there would be a Red version and a Blue version, the way I made it.

you know, if you just made something that was a PXL mmorpg, where you had pixels of different colors move around and stuff. I don't know that multiple meshes would work. though I could test it very easily.

Re: multiplayer on scratch

Darth: You cannot upload a .exe and you can't have the client be a .exe anyways otherwise it won't be able to connect.

Re: multiplayer on scratch

Yep, just upload the normal file, or you could put the .exe in a .zip then upload it, that might slip pass the .exe protection thingy.

But the Snyff thing helps you connect two computers together at the same house, doesn't it? I think what hirandomperson is saying is that there should be some kind of block in Scratch 1.4 that would make it possible to create multiplayer online games (MOGs) like Club Penguin or World of Warcraft. That would be perfect for my Warrior Cats RPG.  smile

exactly what i was thinking

Exactly as it is. Snyff, and the scratch connections foundation itself, works on an IP, not TCP basis. This means that any computer connected to the internet can connect to any other one connected.

Kinda a bit of hacking there, and also... if you want to connect with some, you need to get them to do that aswell, then put in the IP adress of the host cmputer/server.
But still awesome, nice work finding that.  smile

Re: multiplayer on scratch

You can make scratch multiplayer, just go into the system browser and change the code on mesh.

Re: multiplayer on scratch

theres a program called "Snyff" that allows connection between two computers, but you need the IP address.
