A couple of Scratchers who wrote wonderful projects, including very helpful tutorials, later left the website. In one case, the account remained but all the projects had been deleted. It's a shame to lose projects like that, unless the author really wants to remove them from access permanently. Is there any chance that Scratchers could contribute their projects to Scratch for inclusion in archives that could be preserved and accessible? (My own projects would never have gotten anywhere without the help of other Scratchers, so when I upload my projects I both feel that they're 'mine'...but that they also belong to the community. Otherwise I wouldn't upload them.) Preserving projects helps preserve the community of Scratchers.

Hmmm... that's sad. maybe it's yet another reason to delete the close account button? Interesting idea...

I agree with both of you.
Everyone seems to hate the 'Close account' button.

Could the 'Close Account' button have options added?
It could say, "Close Account but leave your projects for other Scratchers to enjoy" - or - "Close Account and delete projects."
If people choose to leave the projects, then the Scratch Team would be notified and could add the projects to the Scratch Museum. (Either under the person's name or anonymously, as the person chooses.)

that's a good idea. though I don't seem to get why exactly you would want to close the account. Even if you don't add projects you can still post in the forums and comments, as well as make friends.

It's an interesting thought...but I'm not sure how often a need for it would arise. If somebody wanted to leave scratch but leave their projects, they can just set them to No Comments and walk away, leaving their account open. Trying to deal with orphaned projects seems needlessly complicated to me.
