Interesting discussion going on here! Have you guys considered giving the Pygame module a try? It's an excellent and easy to use multi-media library with sprites, collision detection, mouse/keyboard/joystick input, fast blitting etc., and lets you focus on coding games and GUIs in Python instead of having to figure out how to clip rectangles...

Pygame has already been brought up.

Filo5: I'v got an idea, why not ask Nate3D or another one of the 3D artists to make a 3D emerald for us?

Jens: As Marky said, yes it's already been brought up.  smile

That would be interesting Marky...

Re: Emerald

Why not make it in Just BASIC? As far as I'm concerned, it does about the same but it's a LOT easier to learn. I could even write up the commands you already have.

Well, I believe Python is more powerful than JustBasic.

Re: Emerald

Yes, Python is quite powerful, but for the uses you're using it for, JustBasic is equal in power. I agree that JustBasic is limited and much more so than Python, but I have been able to create many a decent program in it. JustBasic is a LOT more easy to learn... I believe the pros outweigh the cons - you don't have to convert it to an .app or .exe later, there's a simple way to do so in JustBASIC. But I think I'll scratch up on my Python skills and see if I want to help  smile

Yum, Salt and vinegar! I love them! After looking in-depth at Emerald, I don't quite find the way it's doing certain things satisfactory. Once you've asked somebody something... Well, it can't do anything with it.

Salt and vinegar? Strange.....

And I think it is just a test so it doesn't mean to do anything yet. But it still does need some important scripts that could make it better.

Re: Emerald

We might just go and use JustBasic, but Python's faster, but JustBasic and Python weigh about the same, we could work on both, it's just I can't do graphics very well on either.  hmm  *Opens up JustBasic and searches JustBasic adding graphics*

I'm pretty sure JustBASIC isn't as powerful.

Re: Emerald

Erm... What is JustBASIC? Another BASIC dialect? Why can't we just stick to Python or some other widely known and implemented powerful language like ruby or C#?

*Closes JustBasic and other JustBasic related stuff* We're sticking to Python Filo, JustBasic is to confusing.

Re: Emerald

Yes... I'll get to Python when I finish the Ruby book.

As for the logo, we need an emerald, possibly made of green 0's and 1's (like in The Matrix : Reloaded movie), and white glowing EMERALD text, semi-transparent.

For now, I don't have much internet connection, i just moved to the UK (check my twitter, everything is there) so we haven't set up the connection yet. But I can make some videos like presentations or tutorials (I gotz Sony Vegas). I can also try to make a website for Emerald (I'm pretty good in HTML and I kinda know Flash).

Re: Emerald

Graphics was the exact thing I needed.  tongue  But could you make the Loading and Saving programs? Example:

Code:

Command: Save
Save as? MyProgram.py/.txt

and

Code:

Command: Load
Load file name? MyProgram.py/.txt

It can be .py or .txt I think .txt would be better.

I can do that. And what should I do when I upload it? (E.G. Where to upload it, how, etc.)

EDIT: Never mind, I'll upload it to the Wiki. I'll have it up by tomorrow, maybe tonight.

Lol, it doesn't matter, I noticed 1 synax error which I fixed but did not upload...
while x = 0:

You forgot it's supposed to be == not = , and I thought you tested it before you uploaded it.  wink

Please continue discussion on the Emerald Updates Discussion. That would be helpful.  smile
