The way you could see into the past is:
1. Build a spaceship.
2. Fly really fast any amount of lightyears away into empty space. (The further you go, the further back in time you'll see.)
3. Take a really really really good zoom lense and look back at the earth.
4. Because you are so far away, the light you will be seeing will not be in the present time and you will, effectively, be seeing into the past.
5. Proof of my theory is that when we see the stars, we are actually seeing the light from thousands of years ago, because they are thousands of lightyears away. Dead stars will not seem dead to us until thousands of years after they explode. So, why couldn't it work the other way around?

however if you went on the fringe of faster than light, wouldn't if you looked behind you, see yourself, from a couple of seconds ago?

You can't go faster than the speed of light though, so that sort of ruins that plan.
Now if you could FOLD SPACE (if that makes any sense without an explanation), avoiding the time part of the space-time continuum, then something interesting might happen.

I think everyone here is wrong(except maybe fboi999 and filo5testing). I'm not much of a physicist myself, but time is not a force but a dimension. There is nothing known to science that will prevent ANY sort of time travel, although paradoxes do exist. To us, time is a special dimension, it causes "time", but it really only is space. So you can move back and forth on it. Yes, it is possible to create a wormhole through, but today's technologies don't allow for it. But, believe it or not, people on space stations and rockets have traveled as far as a couple seconds into the future, because the faster you go through space, the slower "time" flies.
It might not make any sense to most of you, and I could be wrong. Like I said before, I'm not a physicist.

and I already stated that somewhere, just not on this forum post XP)
and it makes sense.
Also time gets distorted when near the event horizon of a black hole, meaning, you will most likely travel forwards in time (I think)
My theory is paradoxes are impossible, due to the fact of seperate timelines, actually alternate reality's would be much more of a worry, I think when it comes to paradoxes

Exactly! It's also a theory that black holes (since they bend space-time) can lead to the past!
I think that theory only works if we have a bent universe

Time travel has actually happened.
Two atomic clocks were built. One was to stay at home, while the other got a ride in a jet. After a while, the two were compared. The one that stayed at home was a few milliseconds ahead.
I believe that time travel is possible. It has been done, you know.

But even if that test works, you would never really know that you were in the future, or how far you were in the future, with the jet experiment for sure...
What if there are infinitely many conscious people in infinitely many times? For example... What if I (the "version" of me writing this at this moment) am in this time with everyone who thinks they are "here" right "now", but at the exact same time there are other people living in the future right now? That might involve alternate universes or something, I really don't know.
I did a horrible job of explaining that, but it's just something to think about.

my theory of alternate timelines, if you go back in time, you change timelines, which means, you create a paradox in that timeline, it's not gonna destroy the future your from

Well, I don't want to derail this thread, but what if predetermination forces you to do whatever you are "meant" to do in that part of the timeline?

yes, that's another theory, I suppose, but not even space/time can force us against our will

IF time travel is possible, then you could go back in time (duh), BUT if you mess somthing up, there could be a pradox causing utter chaos to the now-present world.
Offline
It would cause a paradox because of the space-time continuum. People would no longer exist, black holes would form, people wold begin to exist, resulting in a catastrophic future. And it's all cuz you had to go back in time to stop the creation of the atom bomb and all atomic weaponry.

I don't think timetravel is possible AT ALL. If we could have tried, we could ruin the space-time-continum, and destroy the universe. But one way to see the Earth thousands of years ago, travel at the speed of light (impossible) to a star far from earth.

that's ALMOST what I'm trying to say; If we could get a super genius to build a contraption like Dr. Who's (lol impossible) we could go backwards or forwards in time, but that would mess up the space-time-contiuum and destroy the universe in one big atomic nuclear explosion, OR the universe would be sucked into a black hole. I like choice #2 better

You have a point. It depends on how you define 'Time Travel'

Well, it's also a theory that black holes lead to parallel universes, but if you wanna talk about that, see my thread.

OK. I don't remember where I read this:
Time travel can exist, but you can only go backwards, not forwards, so that isn't much fun. Also, there is no second option of "rewind", there will be the you from the past, and you from the present, both in the past.

By the time you are in the black hole, you'll be dead.

If you are interested in black holes and event horizons, feel free to look into the works of Steven Hawking.
I made up a theory which I call "Alternate Paradox Theory" which states:
Any 'paradox' is actually an opinion of the viewer, and does not affect time, history, and so forth, unless taken into account an alternate timeline.
You may wonder, "Is that correct?". Well, look at it. It complies with the theory of alternate timelines, right? It just creates a separate one. How did I get this theory?
Einstein's special theory of relativity states:
Any two causes to an experiment are related.
And that told him that you can bend light, which is true.
So I took the theory and I said, "If you say 'I always lie', isn't it an opinion about yourself?". And since it is a paradox, all paradoxes are opinions.
There you go.

Yes, yours is correct. Black holes are distortions of space-time and cause "weird" effects. I say "weird" because it may be strange, but that happens all over the universe.

Time travel can only be done to the past, not the future. But if you went back in time, one breath could make you cease to exist. Your now new future, your old present, you starts fading into oblivion and the now present you will live in the past until time goes back to the present. Then, you start aging again until you die. Overall, two of you will die, when the first one dies, or fades, your present is changed to nothing.

yeah, I'm just saying IF it was possible to go through, there are several different theories of what you would see: Would you go backwards/forwards in time? Would you be in a parallel universe? Would you be farther out in the universe as if it was a portal?

Time travel would only cause time pardoxes. Then, the universe would explode
