Why Is there a "Close account" button?

Why Is there a "Close account"  button on your my stuff?  Hackers could do more damage.  It's scary enough already.   yikes

It deletes your account, I think.

But (and I'm not sure about this) it might be possible to restore your account, like in Facebook, where all you have to do is click a button  smile

Cool! Lol, just kidding. It's basically what it is. You click that and a few other warning buttons, and poof!

Re: Why Is there a "Close account" button?

I made a test account and closed it. It completely deletes the account, and you can't log in again or visit its page again.

Is there an "Are you Sure?" message? Because if I accidentally click it and lose my account, I'll be very upset.

yes it deletes your whole "my stuff" page (so no one can see it) but it still has your comments, so if you click the name link it has a 'oops this page does not exist!' page.

you also can't log into the account anymore. idk if you are still on your friends'  friend list.

how i know this: a bunch of other accounts i made that i don't use.

Yeah, does it? Does anyone know what exactly happens when you press that? I'm kind of nervous...

Me to. I'll see if there's one of those warning buttons.

Re: Why Is there a "Close account" button?

It's ok  smile

When you press the button you are taken to another page.
On that page you have a box that you need to enter a reason for why you are closing your account  smile
There is also a never mind button so I presume your account will be safe ^^

Re: Why Is there a "Close account" button?

I really wish they'd remove it. It's not that hard to contact the scratch team if you want to get your account deleted...

On the test account I made to try that button, I discovered that when you type a reason and press the delete button everything gets removed immediately, no matter what you write. It's made worse by the fact that everyone is paranoid of hackers right now.

Re: Why Is there a "Close account" button?

If my understanding of it is correct when you confirm the deletion you send a message to the scratch team. Then the account appears to be deleted, but the it is not really deleted the scratch team then processes your request and then closes the account.

I've taken a long hiatus, but I still visit sometimes. Give me some time to answer any messages you post on my projects!

No offence Scratch Team, but this is a really bad update. Someone who guesses someone's password can close the account.
