ok, im using your engine for velocity, but i cant get it to(non glitchily) not go past a certain velocity.
i dont want players to be able to go really fast to get through a puzzle by basically teleporting.
btw, what about a shift game for scratch?
Offline
shift? you can make it smaller by doing this: <key[ left ]pressed?><change{ velocity }by(-0.5
that works.

Immediately after the block that increases / decreases velocity, put an if statement that checks if it has gone over your maximum, and if it has, sets it to your maximum.
Worth doing one for the minium, too, or they will still be able to reverse at infinite speed

thx what do you think about a SHIFT game?

mayhem you forgot one thing: you said if it reaches like ten you set it to max speed. you have to say max speed = 10.
also i have no idea what a shift game is.
Offline
wow. this topic has the most comments ever. 157. thats alot.
also so the only thing you need help with is the speed?

SHIFT...

try it, it is a parody on portal in some stuff.

its a comment block. you cannot do this anymore, becuase it was only in scratch beta. it MIGHT come to in an other downloadible scratch kit.
Does anyone know why comment blocks were removed? As a teacher I would really appreciate them since it would allow me to make demos and then have in-project explanations of what each part does.

Well, they got removed because most young scratchers had no idea what it meant. You can either put a <say[this script is for blahblah ]for(0)secs> in the script at the start or not in but all alone next to it not attached to anytthing.

And for a scrolling game, you have to have the right sprites and all, and its alot of blocks, so look up "scrolling" in the forum.

Go to this thread for scrolling help http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=2440

No you dont't as maximum speed is usually a constant, not a variable.
So you type the required number, whether it be 10, 15 or 50, directly into the check.

lol. 50. but some guy questioned me alot earlier and he said that and he said it his speed would venver go down. i told him this vgariable way, and he said it works. i guess theres alot of diffrent ways.

this is off topic, but im working on a new two player pong game as a break from portal, and i am having trouble with the bounce system.
the problem is that i have paddles made of three colors each, and when it hits the center it bounces in one way. that works. but the outsides are giving me trouble.
i cant get the bounce right, and i am kind of frustrated. i dont want to just use a random bounce, but i also dont want to deal w complex trig.
any ideas?

i got a good question... im making a scrolling game that scrolls up and down... but one of the scripts has a red border around it when i clock the green flag and doesnt do wut its supposed to do... do u know why it does this? And also... its based off of Archmage's Efficient Scrolling Demo, and i changed a few things to make it scrol up and down... I'll put the script that's not working here...
<when green flag clicked>
<set{ scrollY }to( 0
<forever>
<if><key[ up arrow ]pressed?>
<change{ Yvelocity }by( -1
<end>
<if><key[ down arrow ]pressed?>
<change{ Yvelocity }by( 1
<end>
<set{ Yvelocity }to( (( <{ Yvelocity }> <*> .9 ))
<change{ Yvelocity }by( <{ ScrollY }>
<end>

Heybrian,
What do I have to do to go from background1 to background2 using whirl and only then pixelate?
Thank you
Klaus
Offline
Okay. I think your meaning while its whirling it changes background so it looks like you teleported?
Well, if so, do this.
<when[ anything ]clicked> (Or whever you want it to do it)
<broadcast[ backround
<repeat(10>
<change[whirl ]effect by( 1
<repeat(10
<change[ whirl ]effect by( -1
<repeat(10
<change[ pixel ]effect by(1
<repeat(10
<change[ pixel ]effect by( -1
<end>
While on another script......
<when I receive[ backround
<wait( 3 )secsc>
<switch to costume[ 2
Actully it would be switch to backround 2 but they dont have that in the forums.
