Back in the day when this thread was created people just came here to become popular because many people who started here back with 1.1 are very well-known by now, and they figured that they could become an internet superstar! However, the people that were already here did not have any patience for people that were like "Hey look at me!". Also, some people thought they were horrible at coding and left because they thought nobody liked them. For some, that was the case. For others, it wasn't. Scratching is not about popularity, in my opinion, but rather the fun of it and as a stepping stone for other languages. Scratch is the single best thing that has happened to scripting in the past 10 years.

I wouldn't go that far. There are many programs that are similar such as agentsheets, gamemaker, and greenfoot. Scratch is still awesome though
