How do you prevent cheats on ratings?

What if a person creates hundreds of account and use them to love his projects so they can be top loved?
What if a person keeps refreshing his projects so they can be top viewed?

Re: How do you prevent cheats on ratings?

Yes it is possible to create many accounts and love your own projects many times, but you have to enter an email adress each time so you'll get spammed to death by Scratch.

I have to admit ive done the refreshing thing a few times...

http://i52.tinypic.com/5es7t0.png I know what you're thinking! "Neptune! Get rid of those filthy advertisements and give us back the Zarathustra siggy, you horrible person!" Well, don't worry about it, the Zara siggy will be back soon, new and improved! ^^ Meanwhile, just do what the sig tells you to. >.>

Re: How do you prevent cheats on ratings?

The "views" rating is a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy - a project with enough views to get onto the front page will get more views due to *being* on the front page.

Not really sure what you could do about that - or if you would even want to.

Re: How do you prevent cheats on ratings?

We are working on ways to make the number of views not increase when the same person views it over and over again.

Mayhem, you are right that the "views" rating could be a self-fulfilling prophecy.  We are thinking of ways to better organize these categories.  Right now, "Top Viewed" and "Top Loved" only show the top loved and top viewed in the past 2 weeks so we don't have the same projects on the homepage forever.  Do you have other suggestions for how to better organize and/or manage the homepage?

Thanks!
Tammy

Re: How do you prevent cheats on ratings?

I'm currently giving my own projects extra views, purely because thats the only way AFAIK that I can see if anyone has added a comment about it.

Re: How do you prevent cheats on ratings?

The view counter now only counts one view per IP address. This, we hope, will give us more accurate measure of the number of views. Thanks for your feedback.

Re: How do you prevent cheats on ratings?

I can't believe that my friend actually is using MY mom's e-mail account just so that she can get more love-its on her projects.
