From my observations, I have found certain time spans for the sections on the front page. Once a project is 5 days old, it gets off the top viewed section, letting the next project with the most views less than 5 days old go on. For the top loved section, I think the limit is one week and top downloaded is two weeks.

One correction.
It seems that if a project keeps on succeeding at the top section it is in, it can stay there for longer than the specified time limits. Or if the website gets messed up, the guidelines/projects can change.
