Actually, commercial programmers typically try to create programs with less scripts/less code :-) Perl programmers even try to do everything in one single line of very obfuscated code!

Neither many scripts nor few scripts is the right goal.  The goal is very clean, easy to understand scripts that work well and run fast.  It is never an easy goal to achieve.
