Actually, I find that some commercial spammers aren't spam bots at all, but people trying to use the Scratch forum as a means for Search Engine Optimization. They can be really sneaky by commenting on a thread with a message that seems to be related to what the thread is about, and then later editing the comment with a link to a commercial site in hopes it won't be seen right away. CAPTCHA codes will prevent the bots, but not the commercial spammers who can still read the code.

Also, people can program spambots that ask their owner when they detect a CAPTCHA image.
