Spam

I keep on seeing spam around here. The whole website. But I have a suggestion. How about there be a "flag spam" button so the people can decide what's spam? If a person makes too much spam, something can happen.

Well, there is the report link on every forum post. If you suspect something is spam, you can just report it (in your report, if you're not too sure it's spam, you can provide a valid reason why you think a certain post might be spam) and a forum moderator or Scratch Team will be able to look into it.  smile

I mean comments on projects. How can you report them?

You could use the Contact Us button at the bottom of the screen if you really feel it is that bad, otherwise, you can flag the comment as inappropriate.

Or if it is on your project, just click the (x) and delete it.

Ah. I thought flagging it as inappropriate meant it was an inappropriate comment. Case Closed!

why do people not like spam?  It just gets more views for people.  How is it hurting anybody?

God = backwards dog.  Backwards dog = the opposite of dog.
The opposite of dog = cat.  God = cat.     God is a cat.

I don't think it's neccessary, but I wouldn't mind if the Scratch Team added that feature.

I knew that. I did it too. And I changed the color effect for quoting you. LavenderBlush.

If you flag a project or post, you get to explain why. For comments, you can't. Ah well... it isn't really neccessary. There is one problem though: my project Code Messenger. I'm worried if someone's going to encode swear words and then post the encoded words in a comment. Sure, I always read my comments, but I can't report for why I flagged the comment. Since the comment would look like nonsense, the Scratch Team would check it and give me a message saying not to flag comments for no reason at all. Still, I can always delete comments...

Sure, but you don't get to alert the Scratch Team.

You can flag anything as long as it's bad. Not just inappropiate stuff, you could flag for spamming or being really insulting.

People don't like spam because it's really annoying. Imagine you get a comment on one of your projects like this:

Spammer wrote:

Spam spam spam spam Spam spam spam spam Spam spam spam spam Spam spam spam spam Spam spam spam spam Spam spam spam spam Spam spam spam spam Spam spam spam spam Spam spam spam spam Spam spam spam spam etc.

And it goes on and on. It's really pathetic, isn't it? That is why people don't like spam.

Look! Tons of quotes!

Ah, that's true. Although if you get a message saying you have been flagging inappropriately, you could try sending a message to the Scratch Team with a better explanation as to why you flagged the comment and think it's (the comment is) highly inappropriate.

Not necessarily. Spam isn't just advertising your projects - spam is any Stupid, Pointless and Annoying Message.

Re: Spam

You're true. I think there should be a [flag as spam] button as well as a [flag as inappropriate] button on every comment and forum post. In fact there's even a sample project on Scratch 1.3.1 apparently about spam and why we should stop it. Of course it would be annoying if a spammer came along and said...

Spam spam spam spam spam... link to non-related content

That explains it all. Well that's not the only way to spam, you can get also get there by posting the same comment over and over again.
