What does antan stand for?

Just wondering. I may know it by some other name.
Oh and what does it do? (for example abs is distance from 0 on the number line)

atan is short for ArcTangent. you should know what Tangent is to understand. atan is the inverse function of tangent. it is a trigonometrical function. you can look it up on wikipedia for more info.
