i know this makes me sound like a noob, but im also having trouble w/ my jump.
he cant move sideways while going up.
im posting what i have so far.

i just updated it.
it now is a little better, and is there a better way than just making the walls a different color to prevent walking through them.
i know that sounds noob-ish, but my friends say it is the only way...

Actually, there's at least two other ways that I can think of off-hand. The walls could be made out of sprites and you could test for them. For another approach, the walls could have fixed XY positions and you could test to see if you were in that area of the screen. Making the walls a different color is certainly a good approach, maybe the best approach for this application...but it's not the only approach!
Using sprites as walls works better in some cases. Once you touch the wall, you can query it's direction and find out which way is perpendicular from it. Then, you can set up a realistic bounce, or other action. That technique worked really well in my Ricochet Mini-Golf project.

okay so fpsfelix do you need any other help?
Offline
not right now.
im working on it as we forum-speak

i fixed the jumping and moving thing.
now, instead of "change x by"
i used a variable.
that fixed that, but im still working on portal placement and transition.
Offline
so you dont really need my help do you?
Offline
not right now, but i am still trying to figure out portal transition so that i dont instantaneously go from one to another, and still allow the "infinite loop"

my new sig. rocks huh
Prelude 12/21 by AFI.
Is there any call for a scratch game of SHIFT.
to the people who dont know what that is, it is on Armorgames.com check it out.
the code seems like it wouldnt be too complicated, so is there a reason?
Offline
i really dont get your sig.
you have an xbox 360? or just portal for pc?

You may wanna use my velocity engine for your game. (helps for the not able to jump and move guy)
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/Heybrian/99738
Offline
i have a ps3,
the sig is a couple lines from a song
just search it on youtube if you have a good connection
Offline
also, i fixed the jump and move thing.
originally, it was"change x by 3"
i changed it to"change x vel"and made a x velocity variable + i added
forever
change x by xvel
Offline
I looked at the velocity engine, and not bad, but i might use it w/ one change
instead of increasing x velocity, i will make the arrows set it so you cant go really fast.
Offline
yeah, my engine works well. (only when downloaded.)
Offline
oh, wait a minute duh.
i will just set it so x vel has to be below a certain point to increase it.
that might work well.
Offline
you should use velocity for x to. or are you? my way works well. you can decrease the amout of velocity.
if you dont download the engine though the cat will fly away.
Offline
i know, i glitch if i dont download on everything.
