I like it except for the "Your friendship with name has been broken" bit. It sounds a bit too firm... perhaps "You have been taken off name's friend list"?

This is a good idea, except for the "Person has replied to your topic/post" things
That would lead to way too much spam, and also the site and the forums are like seperate so that might not even be implementable

i agree with that also. I'm not sure that you should even get a notification for that. It seems a little harsh no matter how you say it, and that might hurt feelings, cause people to leave, ect. ect.

those all sound good, you should also be able to edit which ones you want notifications for

Your initial post said we'd have choice about what to be notified about and that's important.  Notification about remixes and forum replies are the two I'd find most important.  And notification about appearing on the front page would be nice, too. As for the others, I kinda like the mystery of who loved a project, who made it a favorite, who downloaded it. Maybe that would help some people feel free to use whatever is helpful in a project in their own Scratching...  ____Anyway, there are lots of really good ideas in this thread. (Including NOT making a big deal out of friendships coming and going, IMHO.)
