Why the heck would they be after a lizard!? They couldn't care less about a lizard. They focus on Wild animals in a neighborhood/City/Province. Or they just go around and Hook dogs and cats, Not lizards.

Why? Lizards are semi-harmless. and you said they didn't know about his powers.
