I suggest:

Cats, wolves, foxes, rabbits, ducks, pheasants, maaaaaybe mice.

For the unlockables I suggest deer, moose and other ungulates. Also, different feline and canine species such as lynxes or even tigers, and coyotes. Oh, and bears, too.

Also, there are flaws in your game.    Look at the stats:

It turns out that the dog and the rest of the animals are the same thing, except that the dog can avoid BOTH pools and fences while the others can avoid only one of those, which means that the dog is stronger than the rest.

I think you should create a unique combination for each species so that they are level. For example, two pros and one con for each animal:

dog (lets change this to wolf... nobody hunts on dogs.): 1. Has great sense of smell. 2. Has really high endurance when running. 2. Leaves a lot of footprints.
rabbit: 1. Can hear very well. 2. Can run very fast. 3. Is vulnerable to fence traps.
mouse: 1. Is small and hard to notice. 2. Digs holes. 3. Is vulnerable to poison-based traps.
cat: 1. Has 9 lives. 2. Doesn't leave any footprints at all. 3. Is vulnerable to hunting traps (the snatch-when-stepped-on type).
turtle: 1. Can swim. 2. Doesn't make any sound. 3. Is very vulnerable on land.
frog: 1. Can swim. 2. Is fast both in water and on land. 3. Is quite vulnerable to various traps.
bluebird: 1. Can fly. 2. Can hide well. 3. Makes a lot of noise with its wings when flying.

anyhow, back to the game.

i set up some mouse traps around. i equipt the chill gun. it hurts animals which need heat.

I shift closer to the wolf and sniff him curiously. "I think.... I think I heard some human footsteps right over there," I point my muzzle to the right, showing King the direction.

then the hunter is in site. he hears the noise so randomly chucks some rat traps. the hit the ground and detonate. anyone who touches it will get snapped
