Scratch 1.2.1 Released

Scratch 1.2.1 is now available for download.

Scratch 1.2 included new blocks, features, and bug fixes based on suggestions from the Scratch community. Scratch 1.2 comes with a new set of sample projects, including many by members of the Scratch community.

Scratch 1.2.1 is an improved version of Scratch 1.2. It includes:

* new block: "rest for _ beats"
* hidden sprites no longer can block clicks on other sprites in presentation mode
* the tempo block monitor now looks global, rather than sprite-specific
* fixed the "change tempo by _" block
* default time for "say" and "think" blocks is now back to 2 seconds
* key names ("space", "left arrow", etc.) now translate correctly
* at startup, sprite and costume names show in the current language
* better image compression for some images
* fixed tooltip message for the sound delete button
* in the Macintosh disk image all Scratch subfolders and files are writable by all
* several fixes to sample projects

Scratch 1.2.1 may be downloaded from http://scratch.mit.edu/pages/download

For a list new features, see http://scratch.mit.edu/pages/1.2-release-notes

Please report any problems by posting to this thread or by using the form at http://scratch.media.mit.edu/contact/us

Thank you for using Scratch. Scratch on!
-The Scratch Team

Note to Windows users: The recommended way to upgrade Scratch is to run the installer. This will upgrade your Scratch folder without deleting any projects that you might have stored there. Do NOT run the Scratch 1.1 uninstaller if you have projects in your Scratch folder; that will delete the entire Scratch folder including your projects.

TO SCRATCH CREATORS OR WHATEVER: I thank you for making scratch, it became very useful in coding (on Game Maker/yoyo games) and now I have learned everything and left scratch.

Re: Scratch 1.2.1 Released

Hi, 11alex.

It's great that you feel that you learned something from Scratch. Have you decided what your next programming language will be? If you find something cool, post a note on the forums. I'm curious and I'm sure that others will be, too.

Of course, you are always welcome in the Scratch community.

So long for now!

Re: Scratch 1.2.1 Released

I doubt that anyone has ever "learned everything".  I've been programming for 38 years in many different languages, and I still find it interesting to try to do projects in scratch.  I would not try to do my professional work in scratch (I need complicated data structures, and my programs have grown to be 100,000 lines or more), but scratch is a relaxing hobby.

Re: Scratch 1.2.1 Released

The next game maker what I'm doing is from www.yoyogames.com and the
actual maker is ' Game Maker ' .
What I mean by 'learned everything' is link moving sprites and step and stuff.
You can do 3D in Game Maker but you type in codes, which is really hard!

Re: Scratch 1.2.1 Released

Ofcourse you have to type in the codes... That makes Scratch so good for beginners! You haven't to type in the codes! You can drag them together!

But i think I've learned a lot - and learning a lot -  from scratch... Maybe to much  smile  If i open Flash again, and when I'm programming: I type thinks like "set (variable) to" and that stuff... One solution: debugger  smile

Re: Scratch 1.2.1 Released

Conner41950 - I hope you didn't run the 1.1 uninstall program.  I belive there is a bug in the 1.1 uninstall that does, in fact, delete all your projects (if they were stored in the usual spot under Program Files/Scratch).  It happened to Llamalover.  The recommended approach is to simply install 1.2 on top of 1.1 without an uninstall.  I would contact the Scratch team directly using the Contact Us link at the bottom of this screen for some expert advice.

Re: Scratch 1.2.1 Released

Hi, CONNER41950.

What Paddle2See wrote is right--you should not use the Scratch 1.1 uninstaller. (I hope you didn't!) If you just installed Scratch 1.2.1 and you cannot find your project, it could be that your old Scratch folder was not in the usual place (Program Files/Scratch). You can search your disk for "Scratch.exe" to find all the Scratch folders on your disk.

If you are on a Macintosh, there is no installer or uninstaller. You'll need to drag your Scratch projects from your old Scratch folder into your new one. Or, better yet, keep your own Scratch projects in their own folder somewhere outside of the Scratch folder.

Re: Scratch 1.2.1 Released

candyman,

I don't understand if your post is about the recent changes to the website or about the new Scratch application version 1.2.1 as opposed to the old v.1.1.

what exactly is it you don't like, and which part of the previous version do you miss?
