Etch-A-Scratch 1.0 Available Now!

Hi Scratchers!

I just posted a simple Etch-A-Sketch clone that I did to test good graphics and colors:

http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/TegansPoppy/92932

I know it doesn't do much - just press D to put the pen down, U to take it up, and Spacebar to erase (the pen follows the mouse) - but if anyone needs an Etch-A-Sketch sprite with a window cutout for one of their projects, it is available for download within that project there.

I spent a good deal of time altering the image of the Etch-A-Sketch to actually say "Etch-A-Scratch", see? ;]

Comments more than welcome. Enjoy!

David:.

Thanks to Paddle2See for pointing out the shake-deficiency! Version 1.2 has restructured how things work a little, and I've added in the shake-to-erase effect. ;]

A nice addition...but I see you have it reversed.  You have it that it shakes when I erase.  It's supposed to be the other way around - it erases when I shake!  Actually, I guess you do have it working right - I shook my laptop hard for a few minutes and now the screen is blank - good job!

Haha! My error-of-sequence seems to have cost you quite a bit in terms of hardware loss... I'm, uh, sorry to hear of your recent "success" in erasing your laptop.

On a serious, near-epiphany-level note, what if Scratch recognized the sudden-drop-protection sensors that park the drive heads on Apple laptops? You could truly shake the laptop to erase your Etch-A-Scratch drawing!

I'm sure detecting those sensors for Mac laptop owners would largely frustrate those who don't have cool sensors built into *their* laptops. But no more so than those of us who suffer under the knowledge that there is such a thing as a Scratch Sensor Board, which must - by virtue of its very existence - be a wonderful thing to behold.

Whoops. Ah well, that's what wild geese are for, I suppose. (Posts like this). To return to the topic, yes - I'll evaluate the shake/erase-order bug in the 1.3 release. ;]

Oh look, a rabbit! *chase*
