Re: Scratch and Wikipedia

I put a screenshot of Scratch at startup on the (English) Wikipedia scratch webpage.

relyt12101, the correct place for discussions about the content of the Wikipedia page is on the corresponding Wikipedia discussion page.  This scratch forum should be used for announcing changes that have been made and for inviting scratch users to contribute to the Wikipedia and Wikibooks pages, not for detailed discussion of the contents of the page.  The editing discussions for the page belong as part of the Wikipedia site, so that future editors can see what has already been discussed.

92% of teens have moved on to rap.
If you are part of the 8% who still listen to real music, copy and paste this into your signature

I got there too - it obviously is part of the updates to the ScratchR.

You might get more feedback if you move that post to a more relevant topic...

Re: Scratch and Wikipedia

This discussion should not be over and out forever! Who would like to give it another try? Who is active at both Wikipedia and Scratch? This Discussion in Wikipedia to bring Interactive Content to Wikipedia with Scratch, should start again because in 2007 interactive Content was a gap in Wikipedia, that could be nicely filled by Scratch and today in 2012 - five years later - nothing has changed.

The Wikipedians didn't understand that - if the Scratch Java Engine would be implemented inside Wikipedia - there would be no outside content that would have been referenced: It would be perfectly fitting to rules of Wikipedia and every Wikipedia-Author could easily create his own interactive Multimedia-Content with nearly no learning-curve.

Imagine what kind of breakthrough this wold be for both: Wikipedia and Scratch! Today we have not only the Java-Player, but soon also two alternatve engines with the Flash-Player of the upcomming Scratch 2.0 and the HTML5-Javascript-Player,  Jens and Brian are implementing for BYOB4.0/Snap, that surely will be upward-compatible with Scratch one day (soon?).

Who helps, to get this  idea to reality?
You know what Alan Kay says: "The best way to predict the future is to invent it!"
...but you not only have  to invent it....sometime you also have to fight a little bit for it, even if it lasts a long time...  smile

Re: Scratch and Wikipedia

Example: In our DACH-Wiki-Entry about Scratch itself, we use the interactive german Scratch-Project "Scratch in 5 Minuten" = "Scratch in 5 Minutes" to show what Scratch is and to make your first interactive experiences with it: I don't belive that you could explain the "look and feel" of Scratch so fast with written words, pictures or evan with video, than with this interactive media.

DACH-Scratch-Wiki: Scratch
(tip to use it: de:"Weiter mit Leertaste"= en:"Continue with Space-Key")

Who finds other examples, where interactive media - made by Scratch - helps to explain something better than words, pictures and video?

Re: Scratch and Wikipedia

Sounds really cool  yikes  Gonna see if I can find a good example

EDIT: I think this is a good example. While you could just use one of those sound bits in wikipedia already to play the automated song, you can actually click on the keyboard to hear notes!

I fall: It's a tragedy. You fall: It's comedy.
Hmph enjoy your fall - I get a lovely spring... without pans of new leaves.

Re: Scratch and Wikipedia

If there are any constraints on the java player on the wiki, we can use the Flashy player...
