Probably not, making programming easier isn't new and scratch was not the first program to do this. Other similar programs include, gamemaker, alice, and mockingbird. Also considering it doesn't appeal to professionals because of its lack of features and power, I would say that it is going to do well but not amazingly so.

I agree... not because I know how popular those two are. I have no idea! But I agree with you anyway.

A new version comes out about every 4-8 months. Think, in 10 years it may be one of the most advanced-easy-to-use programs in the world.

I wonder how things will be in 10 years...

If my pediction is correct, we will have Scratch 2.4 by then.  lol

Re: Scratch: a rising force

I have been searching the internet for applications for my Mac and have come across Scratch as one of the listed applications. I have done that several times.

If they keep updating it at this pace, in 10 years, it may be as powerful as other existing programs that are similar, like gamemaker. Scratch is easy to use, but not good for professional development which is the point of scratch I think.

Re: Scratch: a rising force

I'm a pro, and I use scratch to make a mockup of my games (too big to put online, double plus ungood!!!) in order to see roughly what i need to do in C# to get my game rolling... also I teach people how to program on scratch first to see if they want to really go into programming (outpost for example)... I dislike the limited commands but it gives me the scale of what I'm going into.
