What is illegal, however, is downloading ROMs of original DS games to play them in a homebrew card.
BTW, the only PALib program I could find, with a purpose similar to that of a programming language, is Micro Lua, which lets you run Lua scripts, but NOT edit them. So we can be sure a DS-based programming language would somehow work.
MIcro Lua, eh? Implement ROBLOX (NOT roblox studio) on DSi?

I know this has nothing to do with downloading scratch onto a DSi, but I didn't know where else to ask. every time I comment from my DSi onto scratch, it replaces my comment with the word 'true' every time! Is this just me, or is it the same for everyone else?

i think it would be easier to start with sometihing else like an app on the itouch and iphone, which would probably be easier. if thats already been done, please tell me where i can get it

oh and about where to get an r4, its usually better to get it online, seeing as technically its illegal to SELL an R4, however its perfectly legal to OWN one. just the R4 loophole

It would be so awesome drawing your own sprites on the DSi.. it could be like the japanese animation DSiWare tool - Moving Memo, where you share your creations on a special website that can only be accessed from the actual DSiWare. You could have your projects there for people to see and also draw sprites that you could share.
Great idea!

Great idea! And if you look at my webcam feature thread in the Suggestions sectionon, that would contribute greatly to the Scratch DSi app. But, how many nintendo points would it cost?
Knowing how great the Scratch Program is, I would say, about 2000 Nintendo Points. The Scratch team should contact Nintendo and Disscus this idea. Imagen, if it did really happen.
We would owe it all to you! Again, Fabulous idea!

This would be a great idea, however I think it would only be possible yet very unlikely on a Wii. It could also be possible on an iPod touch/iPhone, but someone would have to program it in the iPhone developer with the iPhone OS 3.0 GM Seed... I don't see it happening on the DSi though, sorry.

If you are some computer geek and you have an iPod touch or iPhone, you can use LogMeIn and control your computer from your iPod touch or iPhone.
I'm not explaining. It will be too hard for you to understand MEEE. o.O

Scratch on mobile phones would be cool, and a DS game with scratch would be good. You could easy port it to Wii, as the pointer could be used as a mouse. Great!

It would have to be free, because scratch is licensed under the creative commons license.

Scratch for Wii is possible (if ES gets released for wii) because ES, a wii OS, supports Squeak.
Have you looked at Miight and X Whiite? They're Linux distros for the Wii, you might be able to get it running using those.

I guess, that, if a game was made for the Dsi, it would
a) have to be playable on newer and previous versions
b) It would HAVE to have something more, otherwise no one would buy it, not if you can get the exact thing online for free on your laptop, which is pretty portable too
c) and it would have to be lisenced by nintendo, and so far I don't think any games have come out on the DS where you programme your own
It's hard to do all these things AND get a market to buy it. We all wish that it could come out, but I jsut don't think it will happen, or at least, not anytime soon

And through wifi you could send games to your friends!

this is a great idea !

Or, you could make a software development kit for the DSi that you buy that has Scratch as one of the tools for development. It would also have commercial software/game creation tools.

I was really just wanting Scratch to be more portable so that I could work on projects on the go. I don't have a laptop, but am trading in my DS Classic for the DSi. It seems to have everything you'd need to create a great Scratch project.
Any thoughts about creating a downloadable version for the DSi or Scratch Mobile?
Thanks,
hillary
Scratch is written in Squeak, which is a virtual machine (like Java, and Java is very portable). If you'd dig up really long, I think you'd find a DSi implementation of Squeak.

Yeah, I've always wanted to do that. I have this game I'm working on that's gotten several recommendations that I make it an Ipod touch app. I think it'd be cool if they had re-formatted versions of scratch avaliable for download in use for making games on the DS, Ipod, PSP, or even larger systems like the wii, gamecube or xbox. Of course, new blocks would need to be added or edited for each version, such as a "when tilted" block for the Ipod touch, or a "when a,b,x,y, button pressed" for the ds, or a "when cursor moved" block for the wii. This would take some work, but I think it'd be cool to be able to make semi-published games for other gaming systems.
what if some one made a program that converted scratch files in to apps or stuff for ds or what not

Scratch would work well on the DSi because you could have scripts on the top screen and the stage on the bottom screen, or switch. You could also use the touch screen to move blocks. You should be able to share it onto the normal Scratch website and download it onto a computer or DSi and download computer made projects to the DSi.
No. Stage on Top, and Editing on Bottom - because that's the tactile screen where you could grab the blocks. But then I think of the "When [WHATEVER] clicked" block... You should be able to switch screens, then.
NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!it should have the swapbutton like the opria broser on the dsi!!!

There could also be Scratch for Wii.

Homebrew is not illegal.
Homebrew is using it to create your own software and games etc.
Nintendo are cracking down on the people who use homebrew to run downloaded games they should have paid for.
Scratch could theoretically work very well on a DS, as there are games which support the amount of customisation a Scratch DS would have.
But if it comes out or not, the whole scratch projects being able to be downloaded and converted would NOT work. The DS doesnt have keys like the internet has. So therefore to have the DS version it would have to be a completely different version of the software, and would not be intercompatible.
