Lock project

I noticed a new feature after the scratch team changed the website, what I what to know is; what is 'lock project'' and what does it do?

Re: Lock project

If any one else has a answer for this question, please reply. Also, post any questions about other features on the site. Thank you and may your scratch projects be popular.

Re: Lock project

I have no idea what the "lock project" button does.

The new layout for the My Stuff page, with the projects in a vertical list and only 9 per page is terrible.

Re: Lock project

Kevin, it seems that you are trying to hijack the thread here, shame, shame!  But, while we are on the topic of complaints with the new layout, we might as well try to be specific.  What don't you like about it and how would you rather see it?

Re: Lock project

I'd rather see it back the way it was, and I think lock project means lock from sight, but it doesn't allow you to use it.

Re: Lock project

Well, on the plus side, it does make the page load faster for those people that have lots and lots of friends.  Where is this Lock Project control anyway?

I am not picking a side, nor causing a debate; but what exactly is the problem that Kevin Karplus is supposedly doing?

Kevin is changing the topic of the thread.  The thread name is "Lock project" but Kevin is suddenly talking about about other aspects of the web site change.  It is something that he, as a moderator, is continually pointing out in others (and rightly so!).  I'm not being overly serious here, just joking around.  Actually, the Lock Project is part of the whole web site change so it's more a case of expanding the topic rather then hijacking it.

I think Kevin, and all the moderators, do a great job.

Ok, I was just a little confused.

Re: Lock project

Apologies.. It was an experimental feature that shouldn't have been released. The goal was to have the ability to disable/enable comments on a project.

Lock has been disabled now.

As for the changes to the MyStuff page the idea is to avoid loading lots of elements at once to make the page load faster. Could you articulate more about what you don't like and why? My impression is that finding your friend now it's harder perhaps because you have to click on "See more" under the friends section? I am thinking about having the "See more page" a page with a list of all your friends instead of having to browse. What do you think?

Re: Lock project

Well before under galleries there would be an X for deleting/unjoining on gallery's i did not own but now its on gallery's i own and not on the ones i dont own! so now if i want to leave a gallery i cant remove it! same with friends ( not that i would want to get rid of friends ) Also when i click on add projects to gallery only some project come up not all of them!

Re: Lock project

I appreciate the ideas behind the new layout, but I'd rather have it show projects (my own ones and the ones I've favorited) in a couple of columns again. Right now they're lined up in one very long vertical column (I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.11 on a WinXP here at home), which makes the "my stuff page" really awkward to look at and to navigate around in.

Re: Lock project

I don't know why, but my "my stuff" page is still in columns, even after I've refreshed the page (several times).

I think that is a great idea, it would be way better that way!  smile
Also, where says 5 recent friends, it would be nice if it also said the total number of friends.

I posted this thread for questions, answers and suggestions on the web site. Kevin was not hijacking, he was expanding the possibility and  purpose of this thread.

Re: Lock project

The galleries for some reason won't let you be able to see all of your projects. I think the reason is negative side-effects of the scratch team changing everything, and, judging by the comments I've heard, subsequently made it worse than before.

Re: Lock project

One of the main problems for me before was that pages loaded so slow, and froze up my computer. That has been fixed now!  smile
I do not think the changes were bad, except for the friends.

But what do people mean about the "My Stuff" page being in a column?

Re: Lock project

I found a bug in the new system:
I wanted to add a project to a gallery. I clicked the "add projects" button, but the list showed only six of my projects! Those were in fact my oldest projects.

http://i52.tinypic.com/5es7t0.png I know what you're thinking! "Neptune! Get rid of those filthy advertisements and give us back the Zarathustra siggy, you horrible person!" Well, don't worry about it, the Zara siggy will be back soon, new and improved! ^^ Meanwhile, just do what the sig tells you to. >.>
