Linux Version of Scratch (Help please. :) )

I'm having trouble starting Scratch, (and many other programs I've downloaded.) I've downloaded it (obviously) I extracted it (hard to do) and then I can't find the program. I see multiple Scratch and Scratch~ and I saw Squeak. (I know what Squeak is.) Any ideas? (This could help others too.  wink  )

Your problem is that there isn't a Linux version of scratch out yet.-- But the rumor is is that they are working on one.  Also, your sig says that you are looking for testers... can I be one?

Oh, yes, there is now a version of scratch and I suggest you to tell me what distribution you have. If it is Debian, or Ubuntu, or any distribution based on Debian/Ubuntu there's a big chance it supports .deb files:

http://info.scratch.mit.edu/@api/deki/files/1242/=scratch-1.4.0_0.0-3_i386.deb

It works nice on my Ubuntu 9.04 Pl Remix

If yoour distro doesn't support deb files, you can always use those commands in Terminal:

Commands to install:

wget http://info.scratch.mit.edu/@api/deki/files/698/=Scratch1.3.1Linux.tar.gz -O Scratch1.3.1Linux.tar.gz
tar zxf Scratch1.3.1Linux.tar.gz
cd Scratch1.3.1Linux
perl scratch_install.pl

(well those command are here http://info.scratch.mit.edu/Linux_installer )

If you don't have perl, I suggest using Google to see how to install it on your distro

There is a Linux version of Scratch. It's experimental, but I've gotten it to work just fine.
