Twilight suprised me...

I always made fun of Twilight, and I've never read or seen the movie. But, last night I saw the movie and it could possibly be almost as good as Harry Potter. Yes, I am a boy; but that doesn't change a good movie (unless it's High School Musical or something JUST for girls, no offense). Before I say anything else, I am not a "Crazed Twilight Fan" or what some people might call it.

If you like Twilight, feel free to post.
If you don't like Twilight, feel free to post.
If you want to start a flame war, don't post.

Re: Twilight suprised me...

The most psychotic part of the fanbase surprised me (and they're exactly what ruin Twilight's reputation).

The movie didn't. For me it was just a regular romance movie.

Wow, you are the only person (besides me) to say ANYTHING positive about the movie on this post so far.

Re: Twilight suprised me...

Well... I've always had an unnatural obsession with Harry Potter, and therefore I was excessively disappointed when there became a rival which is not at all comparable to Harry Potter. Twilight is a simple romance novel with vampires. It's an overused plotline and yet became so popular (among teenage girls). Harry Potter is a very original story - at a first glance it may not seem to be so, but it is.

Everybody else on Astrogeek hates Twilight as well.

Re: Twilight suprised me...

iamrpk, I'm sorry, but I don't think you're liable to get a serious discussion about Twilight. The larger part of it's fanbase consists of teenage girls, and they aren't frequently found on forums.
I think the movie is fair enough. It's appealed to an audience (Whether or not it's a diverse audience or not) and has managed to appeal enough to have a sequel, despite it's criticism. In that sense, the film makers have succeeded.
To be honest though, the only part of it i actually liked, and the only reason I watched it in the first place was the 2 songs Paramore made for it.

I'm not sure, all the topic said was "Twilight surprised me..." Did I say, "Twilight was the best movie ever and I expect people to like it" and when I said "Wow, this post is going a lot different then I thought it would." I didn't think people would start thinking I was a crazed Twilight fan and try to talk me out of being one. I like Twilight, but that doesn't mean I'm a crazed Twilight fan.

The way you speak of it trully separates you from the crazy, rabid fangirls that make up 99.8% of the fanbase.
That's all I'm really getting from this post.

Re: Twilight suprised me...

I read the first page of the first book.

Bella is whining about moving to a stereotyped town. That's it.

I wasn't compelled to waste the energy required to turn the page.

Re: Twilight suprised me...

I am a boy but i loved the movie..But  i do have some negative things to say about the franchise.
1.) Eww the "hot guy" doesn't bathe. - notice the quotes

2.) A glittering vampire- *?

3.) Does it really make sense for an apple on the cover of the book? Really?

Re: Twilight suprised me...

ii read all the books, and saw the movie, and i even live near where it was filmed (im not gonna say where but you crazy stalkers out there will probably figure it out) lol i thought it was great and im a guy as well.  it was a nicely written piece of literature and i think most of the hatred stems from the fact that many girls wont shut up about it which annoys me too!

Exactly.
Due to an internet poll, where people stated the reasons why they disliked Twilight, 72.9% of people disliked it because they'd met the fans.
Though that's really the Twilight fanpeople's fault. And if you read some of the things Twilight fangirls have done (e.g. breaking a boys arm because he didnt like Twilight) shows you that the hatred is completely founded.
Paramore refused the offer to help with the soundtrack for Newmoon, as they didnt want to be associated with all the Twilight fanpeople, and be thought of as a "Twilight band".
