Friends Invite/Accept

Ok Its really annoying when tons of random people add me to their friends list. Maybe it could be like this: When someone adds you they send a friend request. And if the person accepts, then you go on their friends and they go on yours. If not you dont go on theirs and there not on yours

Re: Friends Invite/Accept

yea, but Lanie's right. It gets really annoying when people are just spamming you with messages saying that ur now their friend. Sometimes it's even ppl u hate! Though I think people are spamming Lanie especially, because he is a curator, and they want him to see their projects so that they can get frontpage.

Hmm, makes me think of Facebook, where if you want to add someone as a friend, a request is sent and the friend is only added if he/she accepts the request. Of course, that would require getting rid of the asymmetrical friend system in place now. If it can be done, that would be great, I'm not too comfortable with people adding me when I have never talked to them on the forums or if we never commented on each others projects.

Well, not necessarily like deviantART, as deviantART's friend system is asymmetrical as well. (no idea about YouTube, as I haven't been there in a long time).

Re: Friends Invite/Accept

I'm sorry, but I think it's fine the way it is. I know about the fact that you get attacked by those messages, but after all, people can do it just so they can get a fast way of getting to your stuff. They just click on the link in the list of their friends. And then they can see whenever you make a new project in the 'My Friend's Latest Projects'.

Ah well...

Re: Friends Invite/Accept

Or maybe convert this asymetric friends system to subscription system like on YT, and make a new invitation system.

Re: Friends Invite/Accept

More friends means more views. The more people that add you to your friends, the more people view your projects beacause of the "Friends' Latest Projects" section on the front page. If you're famous or something, then lots of people add you as a friend so they can view your projects easier.

Re: Friends Invite/Accept

Same here. It does get annoying. I can't tell you how many people add me,  even if I have never even talked to them. I usually only add someone if I have talked to them in a real conversation. I think that Lanie's idea would be for the best of Scratch members privacy.

Why not make decline messages silent, that is, if the person declines a friend request, no message is sent saying the request has been denied? It might carry a bit of stigma considering that a user may be looking forward to an acceptance message that never comes, but some may consider it less harsh than outward decline.

Re: Friends Invite/Accept

When I think of friendships in Scratch I think it's more like fans. Someone adds you as a friend to see your projects on their front page. Perhaps what we could do is to let you select whether or not you want to be notified. This is what twitter does.
