Hi. I am new to scratch. I am trying to do some small modification on the scratch image file for some personal use in Education too.
I would like to simplify some of the naming of the top left function buttons on the Scratch which are Motion, Looks, Sound, Pen, Control, Sensing, Numbers and Variables.
So I would like to know is there a way I can change the naming for the above 8 buttons or else can I hide some of the buttons? Let say I would just like to show 4 out of 8? Is it possible?
Your help and replies are highly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for the replies.

I don't know any way to change it... but if I find out I'll tell you.

Absolutely!!!
To begin, ensure that programmer facilities are enabled. (if they are not, copy
Preferences enableProgrammerFacilities
into a workspace, then press alt+a followed by alt+d.
Next, triple-middle-click on the category selector you want to change. (triple-alt+click works, too).
To delete it, press the red encircled X above it.
To resize it, drag the yellow circle below it.
To change the text, quintuple-middle-click the text label on the category button.
click the red menu circle.
From the debug menu (8th from the top) choose 'inspect morph.'
Now, in the new yellow window, select 'contents' (6th from the bottom) from the top left pane.
Now, change it to what you like. Ensure that you leave the single quotes surrounding it.
When finished, right-click the top right pane, and select 'accept.' (4th from the bottom).
You can now exit the yellow window.
NOTE: the change is not immediate. But if you switch to/from, that category, you will see it.

"resizabletogglebutton2" is a button.
You need 'StringMorph'.
Make sure that you click 5 times, on the text label.
It will work once the purple label at the bottom says 'string' or 'stringMorph.'

There is simplier way: Go to the "locale" directory, find [your language here].po file, open in text editor and look for the button names, then change them.

I got the answer now!!!
the "bounds" in StringMorph will restrict the content.
eg. 40@85 corner: 93@99
"40@85" is the inital horzontal and vertical position;
"93@99" is the end position
control this 4 value to put your string in the right position

I have the same problem. I can make the changes and they show up. However, after I save the image, close, and the restart, the changes are no longer there. Can anyone help?

I don't quite understand the problem...
Could you explain a bit more about it?

I want to change the name of the category blocks in the upper left hand category ("motion", "looks", etc.). I followed all the steps (inspecting the morph and changing the content properties) that was suggested in an early post, and it does then change the name of the block, at least temporarily. The probem is that when I save the image, close Scratch, and then reopen the program, the changes that I made before are no longer there. So is there another way to change the block category names? Thanks for all your help.

Does anyone have an answer?

I know this is a dumb question, but which one do I edit for English? I was expecting to find an "en.po" or a "us.po" but none of those exists. Thanks so much for your help.

There is no English *.po file. You have to create your own / modify an existing one, then set THAT to the default language, instead of the built-in English strings.
(i believe this is correct)

Thanks. That worked.
