Well, in this topic: http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=14336 It hopes to convert Scratch projects to Flash so if that actually happened, we'd be one step closer!!!!!!!!

Re: Scratch for the Nintendo© Wii™!

I have a related idea. Instead of making a WiiScratch disc, a little game console! It should come with 10 empty discs, and a downloScratch thing that you plug into the pc. You download projects on that by putting the discs in downloScratch.

Also, a WiiJava disc would fix the "i need java to play? WAAAAAAAAA" problem.

bye 1.4, we all loved you. but we all outgrew the site. 2.0 is a welcome change.

No you would not because it will most likely be for the newest version of flash and the wii only supports an older version. I think the best bet for a wii scratch would be for someone to code it in C++ and release it as homebrew. Getting it out for wiiware would probably be too much trouble.

Hi, I am Archmage coder extraordinaire. I do Scratch, pascal, java, php, html, AS2 and AS3. Leave me a message if you want coding advice. Also check out my personal website, lots of good stuff about web development, Flash, and Scratch (v1 and v2) !

I've heard that the Nintendo company is already doing stuff with squeak for the Wii.

Actually eurocracy, the wii has quite good support for programming languages. It can run C/C++ code and it can also run Linux and can run similarly to a computer.

Here is a site with wii programing tutorials
http://www.codemii.com/category/wii-programming-tutorials/

It may be possible to make an home brew version of scratch for the wii but it would probably be very difficult.

The problem with that is homebrew is illegal. nintendo would never want that, and half of the people would have a hard time getting homebrew. Scratch would be doing something illegal. They don't want that.

Re: Scratch for the Nintendo© Wii™!

Scratch for the wii would be cool! Scratch for the ds would be cool too! touch and drag scripts in the bottom area that come alive in the top area you can even set it to switch if you want a project touchable! Scratch for the wii would be AWESOME because you could make your own wii game. the only bad thing... scratch paint would be almost impossible because 9 out of 10 people are shaky with the wii remote. same with drawing with the ds
i have bad drawings and handwriting on the ds. so scratch paint would be impossible on both consoles...  sad

Think about this. If a wii Scratch comes out, there will be entirely new blocks, new system, new everything. Everything has to basically start from Scratch. It's like running Mac OSX on a PC. I'm not saying it can't be done. I'm saying that everything will have to start over. And programming will be more complex. For example, Wii controller can move 180 degrees in every direction. Which means that making Wii Scratch will be A LOT harder than Scratch.

well really all you have to do is have it sense the maine movements. because the wiimote can only detect x,y,z axis... unless its conpttable with wii motian plus. then we'd be scrwed. because with its gyroscope (or gyrosphere) it can detetce all movements

sorry for the horrorable spelling but i suck at it.

Re: Scratch for the Nintendo© Wii™!

People keep on asking this. It's a no. Do you really think that Scratch would work for the Wii? It wouldn't. And it just doesn't make sense...

So there.

Ok, Jonathanpb, stop going to all of these topics and saying "No, this isn't going to happen." It's rude and discourages people.

I think we're actually think that this is possible. If any of you have heard of the homebrew channel, the twilight hack, and X Wiight or other wii linux distros, you might be able to get this done.

Sell Scratch Wii on WiiWare for free. Allow it to save your scratch project on an SD card.

YOU DON'T NEED TO PORT SCRATCH ON HOMEBREW!!!!!!!!!!!! You could find a Squeak Developer package on WiiWare (maybe.)

Or you could make a squeak vm on Unity(it would be uber hard though)
