I'm gonna switch to Python, tempuarally, so, if I like Python better than Scratch, the last thing I'll do with Scratch is the Almost Perfect Mega Man Engine.

Programmed in python and pygame myself. What you will find is if you really enjoy programming you will learn various languages and ask what is the best one for you specifc need.
Right now for my main project I am trying QT - which is a C++ toolkit with GUI, sounds, networking, and XML that I may be needing.
Python and pygame will offer a greater deal of capability over scratch - however last time I checked a good Gui for game coding was lacking.
