Alright, Let's get two things straight:
1) Autism is a neurological disorder. Yes, it can be very mild. But it can also impair judgement to the point that a person stricken with it cannot function on their own. I have known a number of people with it, and you know what? A cure would really help them. And those billboards are one good way to help find a cure.
2) It is scientifically proven that there is a difference in not only intelligence, but also physical prowess, etc, between the races. So your little racism analogy kind of is botched there. I think that there should be segregation. Yes, I actually did just say that. However, not between races, sexes, etc, but based on individual testing. Ie: there is a class for those labeled 'genius' (IQ >140) for above average (100-139) below average (70-99) and * (<70). BTW, those are also scientifically proven facts, and accepted terms for classifying someone as genius, *, etc. But to give you an example, I learned next to nought in my first 8 years of schooling, and then actually started learning when I was transferred to the gifted program in grade 7. Proof that that sort of system does work. That science you just mentioned was completely biased, before the new research. The new research actually shows NO difference except mentally in Autistics. I should know, cuz I'm an Autistic. SEGREGATION NEVER WORKS. In fact, that's the main reason for those civil rights movements. And all those "finding a cure" billboards are supposed scare the bejeebies out of parents. In fact, the only thing an Autistic needs is early intervention. Putting an Autistic in Special ED only makes the kid *. Put him in Regular ED, with an Aide. If he does well, put him in the Gifted classes, with an Aide. If the kid doesnt need an Aide anymore, then the Aide would just go to another kid and repeat the process. I unfortunatly had to get to the Gifted classes, the HARD WAY. Starting with Special ED, all because I was Autistic. That was the ONLY reason. I had excellant grades, excellant behavior, little to no signs of Autism, except for the HUUUUUGE imagination. But I broke the tracking system to get into Regular ED and I broke it again into the Gifted classes.
first of all NO OFFENCE TO ANYONE: even if u up there happen to be autistic, you could not make a speech like that. its not bias. its the truth i did a monkleyload of research and i know im rite. mabye you have a lite form of autism but you are not FULLY AUTISTIC. ok? mabye u just think ur autistic becuz ur different but ur not. or mabye ur just saying u are. but what ur saying is false, i have nuthing against autistic people and i think them being secribed as * is also completely insane but im sorry to say that im right.
What makes you think you have a right to say I have a "lite form" Autism. Look, I was diagnosed with Autism when I was a kid, and there almost little to no type of LITE FORM OF AUTISM. People with mild Autism, extreme Autism, and heck, even Aspergers are fully Autistic. Also, any Autistic can outdo people in imagination and logic. And another thing, all Autism is a small difference, it makes life a lot easier in some ways, and makes it harder in other ways. Pinochio, I know what I'm talking about. I know the facts, and plus, my own mother studies Autism, so she probally agree with my info.

Autism is very much a spectrum disorder, with minor autistic effects at one end to a total inability to deal with other people (for example) at the other.
It is quite usual for a child to be refered to as low (or high) on the autistic spectrum.
So those saying its a binary "yes or no" thing are mistaken - you can be more autistic or less.

Okay, that's what I thought in the first place. Yes, I contradict myself. But because I don't have much info other than experience in this topic, I need to side with the better-read people... sigh

118 is an excellent IQ! Above average is still above average!

Autism is a disorder. And I commend you for what you have done; but I don't think that you are quite getting my point. There should be tests for how well you learn, and how well you allow others to. Just because you are autistic does not mean that you are *, or even handicapped in any way. It varies in seriousness. And with regards to the segregation: Let me give you a precedence.
I started out in a good school, with half decent staff, and a good administration. But in grade two, we got a new principal, VP, and the works. This new administration began to, quite frankly, wreck the school. Teachers got in because they were friends to the principal, for instance. And they get away with a lot. My brother's kindergarten teacher wore what would get any student dress-coded and a week of detentions, every day. My grade 6 teacher ruined my social life by making me choose punishments for my friends. And finally, the demographics turned bad, on account of all the brighter students now avoided that school. This combination left me relying on a tutor to even read! (I'm serious. I would be illiterate if I had got my whole education there). And as you can see, the vicious circle continues. Bad staff, leads to students who don't learn, which leads to them being labeled as bad. This turns away 'good' students and staff, making the situation worse. Then I was transferred to gifted. I started learning! And I found that I did not actually even need it taught. If I could read it myself, and look over it, then I was set. In fact, no-one really needed the teachers. It didn't matter if the teachers were gifted, as the students would already know the curriculum stuff, and start inquiring about more advanced topics. I don't want to brag or anything, but the only thing keeping me from getting anything out of my first 8 years of school was that the environment I was in was way below par (for me, at least).
Had I been put in gifted from the start, Not only would all those hours with my tutor not have been spent, but god knows where I might have been now.

I have autism. I read online about autistics, and it said that 10% of them don't get married. I cried SO hard when I read that. I dunno, do people think we're so weird they don't want to marry us? Well, they SHOULDN'T. When I grow up, I want to get married, have kids, get a job, but most importantly, FIND A CURE FOR AUTISM. But I think the best cure for autism is therapy. I love it, and I absolutely LOVE my therapist. I know she'll help me with all this and help me fit in better.

People with autism not getting married doesn't mean people think they're weird, it just means they haven't grown socially as well as mentally.
