Friends

Is there any way to talk to people on scratch without leaving comments on their projects?

Re: Friends

No. All communication is intended to be public.

The reason is that a lot of our members are children and having private ways of communication is, perhaps, not the most appropriate way of communicating. At least it will not happen on this website.

What we do need is a notification system that will inform you when someone posted a comment.

Re: Friends

That would be useful. Because it wouldn't need to be private just you know when they say something to you and on what project. Because now that I have a bunch of projects up I have I have to check them all to see if anything is new on them.

Brilliant. The more I delve into Scratch and the ethos behind it, the more impressed I am. I find it fascinating that there seem to be two very distinct and equally lively spheres opf activity here: there are the many hundreds of posts of movies, games and ideas by children which, even though these are often very basic, shows just how lively everything is. Then there is this forum which seems to be mostly 'populated' by experienced users and adults at all levels of familiarity with Scratch and programming  (including many members of the Scratch team). This also shows how lively everything is at another level.

And being retired, I haven't as yet even looked at the Educator's section!

Re: Friends

Although the forum is largely populated by adults (being pages of text), I have seen many posts by youngsters also---including some thoughtful discussion of features for the web site.  (With some of the brighter kids, you may not be able to tell that they aren't adults when they write.  I happen to know some of the 11-year-old posters in real life.)

Re: Friends

I have been impressed by the level of engagement and maturity of the members of the Scratch on-line community (young and not so young). Kudos to all of you.
