Just today I discovered something odd. None of the instruments or their sounds play any more on my computer. But the "meow" sound works fine. The Kevin Karplus program "electric_piano" works fine online, but makes no sound on my computer now. It used to work fine. I recently upgraded to Scratch version 1.4. Any idea what could be wrong? I haven't a clue!!! Thanks!

Thanks, BWOG. You've pointed me in the right direction. Unfortunately, the configuration of my computer was also recently complicated by connecting a Korg keyboard to it via an audio interface device. So that's where the problem must lie. But the configuration of all that was difficult and it'll take me awhile to research how to adjust the MIDI settings. The audio interface device became the default audio device for the entire computer (all audio is fed through the audio interface to the small stereo I use to output sound). The normal audio control in the System Tray isn't there anymore and the Sounds and Audio Devices section in Control Panel doesn't include the MIDI volume control, either. I'll have to look elsewhere in this complicated setup. (But my Korg keyboard certainly sounds good!!) -- Larry828

The solution in this case: use "Sound and Audio" in Windows Control Panel. If the computer sound card is the default, MIDI plays fine. If the Audio Interface is the default (for playing the Korg keyboard) then Scratch MIDI is silent. So I just have to make a quick trip to choose what I want to do before starting audio projects. Not elegant, but it works. Thanks again, BWOG, for the useful hint.

This happened to me once, too.
The problem is... I forget what I did to fix it!
It definitely is a problem with the MIDI output.
I will get back to you.
